Ok so im tossing around the idea of putting new fairings and such on bike. When i say new i mean something off of a newer bike. I just seen someone on here used newer gsxr fairings. I myself thought it looked pretty cool. I know some of you guys are a big fan of this by myself i like the look of the newer stuff better. So with that being said where do i start? What do i do? What am i getting into? Who wants to come help?

Why try and make it look like something it is not? Not flaming, just wondering.

a guy on a Kawasaki Vulcan forum put Harley fenders and tank along with tank badges on his Vulcan Could never get a good answer from him as to why he is trying to make people think he is riding some thing different than it is.

I am not sure how much fab work you would have to do for mounting tabs and all. Sounds like more work than I would want. I would rather ride.

Only do it if your stock fairings are trashed or non-existent. The bike's a classic now.

just because a bike is a classic or vintage doesnt stop people from modifying them. just take a look at people that still create cafe racers.

this has been said many times on these forums but still remains true. its his bike, let him do what he wants with it.

+1, couldn't agree more. As far as fitting newer fairings, anything is possible. You'll probably need the upper fairing stay from the donor bike. This will make fitting the new headlight easier as well as the fairing mounted mirrors. Probably will need the donor gauges. They will fit the upper better but you may be able to make the stockers fit. Depending on the lower, you'll have to fab some mounting points, either off the frame or off the motor. As far as the tail, again depending on which one you choose, you'll have to fab some mounting points on the stock sub frame, build a new one to suit, or mount the donors. Using the donor bike sub will make life easier for fitting tail lights etc.

You can also fit some after market kits from something like an RC30.

There's more to it than just bolting on new fairings. You may/will run into issues with the clip-on's interfering with the upper fairing. Modern sport bike bars are low and the cut outs for them on the fairing are low as well. Getting the panels to flow together rather than looking like some parts thrown at it is art in itself.

I, myself am not fan of using other makes panels on a Honda but that's just me. If you source all the parts needed, be sure to post pics of the progress. I know I'll be watching.

So its possible to use a aftermarket kit for a rc30? That could be interesting. Everything is in the air at the moment. I just found out the fairings that the kid just gave me for this bike are from vfr chuck. So thats cool. I may just take that route and get everything else from chuck as well. I want to make it a all out track bike that is still street legal. Also i do agree with not being a big fan of taking fairings from a different makes other than honda so idk. Tuff decision to make.

Going by some of the really strange shit that some dudes do to thier bikes and the bolt on farkles on the market that get strapped on, a fairing change on an 86 could be way cool. Also, it's your ride and BTW, I hate fucking stockers! ;)

Harley fenders and Harley tanks would not be cool and are marginal even on Harleys.

Just my 2 cents and a little know how. First off i totally agree its his bike and he can do what he wants to it. Well i did a lot of research for the same mods. I was able to adapt a cbr600rr tail on mines but getting it to flow is hard but its what i wanted(pics in my gallery). there is a pic in the 1st /2nd gen gallery of a guy who put rc30 fairing on his vfr750...There is a kit sold by airtech-streamlining thats for the 88 NT650 Hawk, that seems to be the closest frame design to the VFR. With that kit u can add 91 RVF fairing or RC30 fairings. Im sure u have to do some modding to get it to work with VFR but its worth it if its WHAT U WANT! i chose to just repair some cheap VFR stock fairings but working on making it a dual headlight set up and changed paint scheme cause it was costly to go with NT650 kit. but if u have the patience and cash....go for what u want.
