I just purchaseed a 1983 V45 Interceptor with a litle over 15,000 miles on it. It is obvious that it spent most of it's life inside as the bike is in very good condition with just a 28 year patina. I knaow it will require tinkering on ocassion, but that is the beauty of these older bikes to me. Ilove to take something and make it better. So far I have had to replace tires, chain and sprockets (they were the oroginals), fork seals, air cleaner, oil and filter, coolant, brake and clutch fluids, rebuild both brake master cylinders, brake pads and spark plugs. No problem these items are age related and normal maintence. The bike runs great and reminds me how things were 28 years ago. No ABS, no self cancelling turn signals, minimum switches and controls, 5 speed instaed of six speed transmission, not a lot of suspension travel and a seat made like a 2X4. I just love to take a ride on my time machine that was in it's time the most advanced sport bike built. Hope you all enjoy yor Interceptor as much as I do.

thats why I love these old bikes. in a sense, they are like living representations of the evolution of modern roadrace bikes, and they also help one appreciate the way a newer bike feels too.

Great bikes until the cams go flat or a rod suddenly shoots out the side.....like what happened to a guy i know here.

In fact, i think i enjoy my '86 Interceptor more cuz i don't worry about maintenance and design flaws as i ride.

    Good Job!
Got one of these puppies for myself, keeps me out of trouble, something to work on and keeps me challenged. This is a great forum for info, tips and assistance with the old beasts.

It's funny that you say the seat is like a 2x4. My brother in law that has a gsxr750 was telling me how comfortable the seat on my VF500 was the other day. His is like sitting on a stone.

That is a beautiful bike that you have there though.

When I was in high school the fastest thing around was my Triumph. A big Honda then was a 305. Went through several more bikes including a couple more Triumphs and a Suzuki T500 Titan. THEN CAME 1969 AND THE CB750 !!! i got the second one available, dealers son got the first one. I was cock of the walk, I thought it can not get better than this. Well it did, I went through several bikes and in 1979 got a CBX, you had to drop the engine to get carbs off and you thought the V45 carbs were hard to remove. Went thrpough the usual Gsxr's, Ninja's and finally the Hayabusa came out. I HAD TO HAVE ONE !!! Went through 5 Busa's las one being a 8.5 second 1/4 mile drag bike. Now I am back in the 80's where it was fun and you had to tinker on the bike to keep it up to snuff. Nuff said.

Congrats! Nice to see someone with a passion for older motorcycles. There are some on here who have several bikes in their garage but you NEVER hear one passionate or emotional word about any of them. They may know what the valve clearance should be but can't tell one story about a great ride with friends they went on or share a feeling they had when completing a cool mod. Clearly the passion for bikes is gone for them and I can confidently say, it's gone in other area's of their lives as well. How refreshing it is too see enthusiasm for a bike and the memories it evokes. I'm still longing for an all red '83 V45 like the one I bought new at 21. I think I'll go out and sit on my bike real quick.

    To Hopit88,
Passion does not describe it. I started on two whells at 13 with a Western Auto Whizzer I am now 70. I stopped drag racing last year as the heat (South Georgia), arthritis and pinched nerve made it ti painful to continue. Raced AMA and SEMDRA on Hayabusa. Through the years I raced Moto Cross, Hare Scrambles, TT, Flat Track, Drag Racing and my real love Road Racing. I have tried to remember all the bikes that Ihave owned an come up with a different nunber each time. Some Times 40 some times 38, etc. Bramds I have owned Western Auto, Sears, Honda, Triumph, Bsa, Norton, Harley, Yamaha, BMW. Kawasaki, Suzuki, Cushman, Vespa and a couple others that I can not remember now. So you see it is not passion in my case it has been a way of life. Every real friend that I have came from motorcycles. My retirement job is technician in a motorcycle shop, I also do all test ridding and help some with sales assistance at times. Ain't it fun.

One if the most interesting Bikes I have owned was a Hayabusa Side Car Rig. The most challanging thing I have ever been on but a great converssation piece. I do not know how toinclude a picture with a post but put a picture in the photos section.
