I want to remove the gas cap assembly ( the ring with the hex head screws ), if I do that nothing falls out or in someplace, Correct??

I would think not, but I wanted to check...I could not find it in the service manual

    Thanks Much :)

If you don't drop the hex bolts through the filler neck, (hard to do with the cap shut) nothing else is small enough to fit through the actual opening. The ring and actual cap are one piece.

I disassembled the gas cap on my VFR like I do on every motorcycle that I own and took out the locking pins. It still looks stock but any key will open it.

On the 86 only 3 of 5 allen head screws were holding it together the other 2 were there for looks only.
