congrats! the VF1000 is a bit much IMHO for a first bike, but I feel that way of ANY 1000+cc bike. gear up, be careful, and dont fear the power, RESPECT IT. heed the last sentence, you'll be alright.

you'll soon learn why some of us LOVE these old bikes, and their inherent quirks and faults/uniquenesses.

Gear is Good! Have fun with the ole girl. Respect the power, speed seems to creep up on old 1000cc sport bikes fast. If you haven't yet, take an MSF course. Trust me, it is money well spent. I re-take the advanced and sport bike MSF courses at least every 3 years. You'd be amazed how easy it is to fall into bad habits without realizing it.

Agree that that is ALOT OF BIKE for a first time rider. But like said, respect it, ride in your skill limits and post pictures!

yes the vf1000 is big for my first bike but for 200$ couldent pass it up. RESPECT of course a wise man once told me "respect and trust your equptment" words iv lived buy ever since the bike is something iv always wanted and never could have. so when i saw the deal i had to go for it . started in rugh conditon but after som tlc iv goten it to a point where i feel comfortable riding it . i have riden on and off my whole life (shhh dont tell mom and dad) but the vfr is the first bike i have ever personaly owned and what better than a honda as a first buy RIGHT??? haha i joke but take it seriously . 1000cc is alot to start on but after riding it the first time i am addicted have never been on a bike that is so heavy yet so light the cornering and gliding down the streets is like nothing iv ever felt. its an escape .... when i ride i feel a real conection with her . htat is something thats been missing my whole life but now iv got it and she ant going anywhere without me

The R is one of my favorite bikes. For a new rider, the weight is the biggest factor. It is a heavy bike. smack doogle is right on the money that with this bike, the speed comes up faster than you realize and the brakes aren't nearly as good as a modern day bike, so be aware of that. Welcome to the forum and post some pictures.
