I have an 84 VF1000F, everything has been working good and last night the headlight (both beams) & the high beam indicator stopped working. All the other lights work, I checked the fuses they are all good, I can't see both filaments burning out at the same time so I will check the switch first before I pull the fairing off to get at the light.

Anybody else have a similar problem?

Not sure about the 1000F, but on my 500F the headlamp is wired through the starter button. When you depress the starter button, the headlamp is switched off to provide more current to the starting motor. When you release the button, the headlamp comes back on. On my 500F, the button spring is weak and will not return the button all the way, I have to pull the button out with my finger to get the headlamp to come on. Might be the same sitiuation with your 1000F.

As odd or unlikely as it may seem, don't throw out the possibility that it might actually be both bulbs burning out simultaneously. I had this happen on my 2006 Accord and my 2003 Civic. Maybe I just got some really shitty luck!

clue that it's the starter button and not bulbs is that the high beam indicator is not lighting either.

Good point. I will blame my foolishness on lack of sleep and failure to comprehend what I was reading. Thanks for the smack.

^^^I didn't think you did - but I meant it as a smack to wake me from my daze. See - I couldn't even explain that one right. I think I'll go jump in one of Donald's threads and see how badly I can fuck that one up. :)

    Sorry 900F - carry on!

Good call, thats exactly what the problem is, when I have time I'll have to pull the switch apart and try and replace the spring.

it's not the spring. It's the pivot pin that's broke and not allowing it to travel smoothly.

Later gen right side switch gear is a much better design and is a direct replacement. Run a gen 5 on my gen 2 with no mods to install.
