I noticed my bike was a bit loud when I bought it second hand. One of the previous owners decided it would be a good idea to remove the baffles.

It appears to be a Yoshimura RS-3 exhaust. Is it worth it to buy the baffles and packing from Yoshimura, or should I grab a used muffler for $55 from Ebay? I don't care what my bike sounds like, really, as long as it's less loud than it is now.

I would just purchase another and send the other back to Yoshimura for repairs and keep it as a spare. Most manufactures perform that service for a very reasonable price.

It will be interesting to find out if the previous owner also dicked with the carb jetting or just gutted the can and called himself a dork - I mean, called it a day.

I had a similar question for my 98. Previous owner put a "custom" exhaust on it. No tags or anything so I don't know what brand or anything this thing is. Guy I bought it from was the friend of the owner who stored if for him... blah blah blah. So no one knows what it is. Anyway, it's really effing loud. It sounds really awesome actually. But I live in a neighborhood where people are easily upset by that kind of thing and I have to really nurse the throttle going to work in the morning. Also apparently it's no fun to ride behind, and I wouldn't mind it being quieter for my own sake as well.

Anyway, my question is how much quieter will repacking actually make it? I assume this thing hasn't been repacked ever...

I bought the 155 dollar delkevic standard can with the removable decibel killer off of ebay 7000 miles ago and have been super satisfied with it. Only slightly louder than stock with a better sound when the dB killer is in and plenty loud and aggressive with it out. SAM_0025.jpg

There is only one word you need to consider for an exhaust for a VFR. That word is STAINTUNE. They never need repacking & sound better than any exhuast out there. IF you can find one, buy it.

If you can't find one, TBR sells repacking kits for not too much cash. I don't see why this wouldn't work on any normal muffler.

Ok I can't argue with KC on the staintune sound part but the price for a slip on is absurd. I can't bring myself to pay 600 dollars for an 18 inch muffler and a 10 inch piece of pipe with one bend in it. Ok, I'm done with my rant, the thread can carry on...

Yah there's no way I would pay that kind of money, at least not right now after I just ordered a new r/r, VFRness, and Sargent seat. I decided to go the economical way and I got the repacking kit. Student salaries are still surprisingly negative....

Your gonna love that sargent seat, especially after a couple hundred miles. Did you get the quick release seat cowl pins too?

I didn't get the pins. The screws are easy enough to take out. And I don't have a cowl yet, but I can always get them afterwards if I want to. I assume this means you are a fan of the pins?

Yeah, I use them practically everyday. Little stuff from the store, notepad for work, jacket liner. Yeah you have to drill the threads out to use them but I have no desire to go back to the screws.
