Here i am, 4 months into VFR ownership, and i honestly don't think that there is a better all around bike than this one. The more i ride this bike the more i love it. I have ridden the RR only twice thusfar after getting the VFR. I can't say enough good things about this machine. I was asked by a friend of mine if i had to have just one or the other which would i choose. Don't get me wrong, you better be alot bigger than me to pry the bars of my RR out of my hands. But, my answer after careful thought was the VFR. I have alot of fun at the same time being very comfortable. I just hope that I never really do have to make that decision. If anybody reading this is considering an Interceptor as their next bike, you will not be disapointed. I am not........and I'm not easily impressed.

I too got an 01 VFR about 3 weeks ago and can't say enough about it. All around fantastic bike. Every time I ride it it "fits" better and better and better. The feel of the engine, the acceleration, the cornering and the overall stability ... an all around great machine for cruising through town, busting through twisties and just goofing around on.

'00-'01's are the best. Screw those catless '98-'99 riders.

I'm just glad that I've never had a major problem with mine. 100k miles, I got my eyes on you.

TA, he is refering to the catalytic converter that 2000 and 2001 models have vs. the 98-99 models that did not have them. Supposedly the cat models have the same power as a catless california model.....if there is a difference i doubt it's substantial enough to notice.

The thing about the VFR is that it is more than you'll ever need on the street yet does so with comfort and style. It is also enough on the track with the proper suspension for the average joe.

As far as the difference between the 98-99 and 00-01 5th gens, the difference lies in the exhaust and fuel systems. In 98-99, the 5th gen was released without a cat and O2 sensors. This was changed in 00-01 with the inclusion of a cat and O2 sensors to further comply with exhaust emission standards.

The "cat" as everyone calls it, refers to the catalytic converter. While it may help with emissions, it seems to muffle the sound of the bike and cause a slight loss in HP.

I think you doubting is correct. The 2000-2001 got the better mirrors too. I replaced my mirrors with some from Emgo. Much better!

Or on the subject of cat's, you could do like mine and what others have done: I have a 2000 model and but have the 98 catless header.

The 98-99 are also about 2 or 3mm in diameter bigger, if I recall.

Someone just wrote that very thing over on the EX500 forums. So which one of you is correct?

Don't forget about the manual throttle thingie on the 98-99 models. There is no wax unit on the 98-99 models. Some people think this is a choke. It isn't.

My owners manual indicates that as a choke. What wax unit?

This is a rough explanation of how the fast idle wax unit works. I don't think this guy really knows (neither do I) how it works. I know there is wax in there. It melts when the engine is hot. It is hard when the engine is cold and it controls the fast idle.

My 1998 VFR does not have this fast idle wax unit. I has a fast idle lever.

I bought my 2000 new and never looked back! I told my friends (jokingly) "It's not he biggest, It's not the fastest, just the best..." They've all ridden mine, and those seasoned, oldschoolers have all bought VFRs of their own! One friend even bought a yellow one to match!

Ive had mine for almost 5 years now. I dont plan on ever selling her. I do wish at times that the engine was a 1000cc. I just wanna feel how strong a V4 can be.
