Hello again. This was sitting for 2 years and the carbs gummed up. i c;leaned them out (twice) but have issues with spark. The bike did start at first, before cleaning the carbs, but needed the choke and would rev to about the 1/3 mark. Afetr cleaning the carbs and reinstalling, it started, ran rough and my tack was jumping (which I think is a rear coil issue or spark box issue/connection issue). After removing the carbs yet again to set the valves, I am not getting strong spark anywhere. I did have to scrape the old gasket from the left cover/casing and wonder if I threw something out of whack down there. I did not touch the mounting screws for the pulse gens but wonder if old gasket flaoting around may be the problem. Anyone else out there suffer the same problems? i am going to clean the area, check all connections, wires etc later this week if I canm but any info would be useful.
2nd question: Does anyone have a decent guide to reconnecting the front coil to the plugs? is it the obvious (left boot wire to left plug and right to right plug...while looking at engine from forks) or not? I notice that the plugs have small circle indent marks. Does one correspond to left and one to right? Thanks and have a safe summer.

Just a note to skull cap harley riders regarding their really stupidly loud bikes. If loud pipes saved lives, the roads would be littered with the dead and dying riders of Japanese and European bike riders (and some more thoughtful harley riders as well).
So, it can be said "you can ride like the wind without sounding like a wetfart"
or "loud pipes don't save lives, knowing how to ride does".

maybe bthey should spend less on that logo crap and take a course.

    Hi
Have you tried swapping the coils over to see if it's that ?
I had a similar problem with my bike running on 3 when I bought it .After cleaning all the connections including the main earth to the frame ect I found after the second carb strip down it ran sweet ,never did find anything gumming them up . Also you might check the battery voltage and clean the kill switch with WD40 you never know . Good luck ,you will sort it .
    Like the Harley rant !

From my '82 sabre days, I think I remember that there is a coil for the front 2 cylinders ( 1 & 3?) and the back 2 (2 & 4?). ONe coil fires both plugs, and at the same time - the top of the compression stroke, and the top of the exhaust stroke. So it may not matter if they're crossed on the same cylinder bank. You can verify that with the index marks on the crank.

and I agree with your loud stupid rider observations...

The pulse generators are common failure, so that's certainly something to check. It's pretty easy to do so you might as well. If that's not your cause I'd say you'll want to find another spark box. The V4HondaBBS is a great place for help and parts for your model by the way. Good luck!
