Hello to all' I'm a long time motorcycle fanatic who's been out of the game for a few years. I actually began riding in 1960 and rode actively until 2002. Had a lot of different bikes over the years (23) trying out different manufacturers and types of bikes. Bought a 1983 Interceptor when they were the latest thing and the looks and potential were intriguing. I've been a V-4 addict since that time. But I've been without a bike for a few years. I can't stand it. I'm negotiating with my son-in-law about taking his '02 VFR off his hands. He can't ride right now and maybe for quite a while due to a non motorcycle related injury. It's been sitting for 4 or 5 years and hasn't been started for at least 3 1/2 years. So I will have a bit of reconditioning work to do before I'm back in the saddle again. I'll probably need to pick a few brains here to make sure I don't miss doing something I should have to get it back on the road. Don't want to miss anything for the bike's sake as well as mine. So, "hello again". Glad to get bake to riding. I don't feel right without a bike. Chuck
Welcome aboard Chuck, and welcome back to riding. Sorry about your son-in-law; hope he gets well and its nothing permanent. There's plenty of knowledge on the 6th generation (2002 to 2009) around here, so ask away. Although I don't have that year, I know there was a wiring recall on certain years beginning in 2002. You can check with your son in law, or call a Honda dealer and they can tell you if it was done by running the VIN. You'll obviously want to get that old gas out and change all the fluid before firing her up. Where you located at?
Thanks for the welcome and kind thoughts for my son-in-law. I'm in Kennewick, Washington. It's in the southern part of the state east of the Cascades. Three towns/cities known as the Tri-Cities. We're right on the Columbia River where the Snake River and Yakima River flow into it. Besides the fluids, all of them, I'll have to check the fork seals, shifter shaft seal, countershaft seal and any others that may have dried out over time. The tires, while they only have 3K on them, are better than 9 years old. That's outside the 6 year life tire manufacurers claim. Flush the cooling system, motor oil, fork fluids, etc. New battery, lube everything. Am I missing something or over thinking it?
Welcome aboard. Enjoy bleeding those pain in the arse linked brakes for the first time LOL! Good luck and keep us posted!! Rollin
Where the hell is Washington State? Is that anywhere near Oysooyoos? Myself, Jasonsmith, Kingsley and Chomper were supposed to go for a three day ride down near your neck of the woods this year but that never happened. Maybe next year. Welcome to this den of insanity and self proclaimed intelegence.
Wow, I though I started riding a long time ago (1968). Welcome to the madness. There is no shortage of VFR knowledge around here. All you need to do is ask.
Wow Den... You started riding the year after I was born... Welcome Chuckster. Its in your blood glad youre getting back on two wheels. As everyone said... Lotsa advice here, take your pick whether good or bad, but mostly good. . Stick around long enough and youll see what an insanely fun bunch we can be. Much luck to ya... And you soninlaw...
I think I had my first wet dream right about the time Den started riding. BTW Den. I am out of BBQ sauce. I am hooked on Den's
