    Hi all,

I went for a rip the other day, And i started too hear a new sound that isnt good. Everything is running normally, BUT when i put the Bike in Neutral and release the clutch at a intersection, I hear a light grinding sound from the tranny, I pull in the the clutch and it stops. What do to, or what is the problem called and ill do a look on the net for it????????????????????????

Thanks for any Info if i can get it.

I have noticed exactly the same thing. I don't have a cause and was going to have it checked out the next time it is in for service (soon). It hasn't changed at all since I first noticed it so I am guessing it is not a problem. If it is a problem then thank god mine is still under warranty.

I've noticed the same on my 06. Not so much a grinding noise, just a change in the engine noise. It's not idling differently because the rpms stay the say but something is different. Asked the service guy at Honda and said it was normal.

i notice no engine noise change, totaly coming from crankcase, sort of like when you put a cars that is a standard and push the shifter toward first without the clutch in and you can feel the gears spining .

I agree. It feels like a slight grinding to me. No change in engine revs and everything seems to work fine, just doesn't feel right.

Make sure you've got enough oil, it's not really old and you used the proper oil to begin with...

    Eliminate the easy stuff first.

Used to get the same sound intermittantly from my then new '03 VTec, the Honda dealer Servicing mechanic said they all do that, another guy I rode who bought his at the time said he had the sound all the time and Honda servicing told him the same thing.

Mind I've never heard it on my Gen 5 so think it Gen 6 design related, then again the Gen 6 also has a lighter feeling easier clutch.

Fear not. Nothing to worry about. Just the clutch basket. Very common, aparently, with a, "V", configuration.

I haven't noticed that noise on my new-to-me 94 VFR, but I haven't yet ridden it without earplugs so I expect it is probably there. My Sabres all did it, and so does my V-Strom, and so did my old Mazda pickup with the five speed manual. I think every manual tranny vehicle does it to some extent, but most people never notice. I know I never noticed it in my cages until I took up motorcycling and got more alert about stuff like that, and then I heard it there too. I wouldn't worry about it.

It's normal. Mine makes the same sound (3rd gen) but the sound becomes less noticeable as the engine warms up.

((New post - old thread)) My 08 does this with only 10,000km. Makes the wierd rumbling noise more when the engine and oil are hot. I also was told it is normal. It does not seem to affect shifting hot or cold and the bike runs awesome.

    Cheers

Pull the electrical connector off the clutch lever switch, and try it again. If it doesn't happen, it's probably The air box flapper valve opening and closing when the switch is borderline between on and off. If it's the flapper valve, hook the connectors back up to the clutch switch, then ignore the noise because it's harmless. :)

The wires to the clutch lever are for the clutch lever switch. If you're in gear, you can't start the bike unless the clutch lever is pulled in. It also tells the engine control module when the clutch is pulled in, so it can allow or disallow the inlet flapper valve to actuate.
