Slick50 or AstroGlide work best. Accept no imitations! Bubba zanetti uses both simultaneously.

Religion, US politics, Republicans vs. Democrats, gays, motor oil.....not on here, please, Bunkie.

Someday i'll start a PROPER oil thread for imported French, Italian or Spanish pure first cold- pressed extravirgin unfiltered olive oil-- which i am a giant fan of --and see where that goes.

Nobody really knows what the very best motor oil is but they know to avoid certain car lubes such as "energy conserving" oils with SJ or SF ratings.

In contrast, most people could easily identify a superior olive oil simply by tasting it on a spoon, in a salad, or on bread. Then you know....after you've tasted. Probably similar to the better-class motor oils, with olive oil the more quality you expect, the more you'll need to pay. And the best stuff is orders of magnitude better than average.

As you have probably noticed, oil threads around here are a moot point. Alot of guys, myself included run the rotella T6 synthetic(In the blue bottle, not the white) and I like it. Others are comfortable paying the few extra bucks on bike specific stuff. Some guys buy basic car oil and haven't had any issues. All we can really agree on is change it frequently and the bike will keep on tickin.

And that is all that needs to be said.

Well, almost all that needs to be said. While Davis5g's comments are a good summary, it would be a disservice to tell you to not use car oil. It just ain't right for bikes, and you will find yourself having clutch problems. Sure, someone may use it, but it will lead to problems.

Just change it often along with the filter. And whatever you do, DON'T FUCKING TELL anyone what you are using. No matter what you use, some asshole will chastise you for using it!

first off 3rdcoastvfr, i bid you a warm welcome to the forum here. you've made awesome choice of bikes to buy and own, though i do have to tell ya that you just asked the wrooooooooooong question for an automotive forum. (no offense or anything, its just that anybody whose been around for very long has seen this thread a zillion times).

there are a certain few topics that you can pose to this, or any forum, that basically starts an epic shitstorm of controversy and arguments. those subjects are oil, oil filters, tires, and im sure a couple more.

everybody has their own opinion. this is something you really have to keep in mind. some people like synthetic oil, some people wont touch the stuff, some people think theyre chemists and will blend god-knows-what and throw in their motors. the real bottom line on ANY of these shitstorm arguments/threads is to CHOOSE WHAT **YOU** ARE COMFORTABLE WITH, AND GO WITH THAT!!!! no 2 ppl are ever gonna give you the same answer on any of these subjects, and who knows, they may all be wrong, or they may all be right. if you like synthetic, go synthetic. if you like dino-oil, go dino. whatever makes you the most comfortable is the right thing to do.

good luck making your choice dude, and remember, just cause somebody disagrees with you on one of these subjects, doesnt necessarily mean that youre wrong, or youre right, or theyre wrong, or theyre right. it just means you disagree.

For the god forsaken hell hole back bayou that Houston is in the summer time you should at least run 20W-50 dino moto oil in the summer or that synthetic 15W Rotella stuff. 10W40 will be a little thin for that kind of crazy heat.

I tend to agree with the 20w50 in hot climates. I don't think you will have any cold flow issues.

being that texas is a sweltering pit of ambient hellish heat, my favorite oil does tend to be Mobil-1 20w50. my bike runs like a raped ape on that stuff. (along with the Mobil-1 M1-108 oil filter, of course) ;)

Waitwut? Back up a minute here! If this thing is truly a VFR7000, then it should be running LOCOMOTIVE oil.

Oh man I hear that Chris!

I usually use a combination of old french fry grease, castor oil, lard, and toss some bacon fat and pork rinds in for good measure in mine.
Dunno if that's any good for the bike but Holy Smokers when it's all good and warmed up it sure does smell good!

Ya know for some reason,I dunno why,but riding that bike always makes me hungry. :noidea:
