Crazy idea but what about using a rectifier off a Harley? They use 30 amp batteries that weigh 27lbs. Theyre big in size and I dont ever hear harley riders bitching about their electrical systems.

Harleys have electrical problems all the time. From my experience they have more problems with it than any other bike that I have experience with.

Ok. I just got to thanking about the time replacing a buds harley battery. I didnt know they used such a big and high amperage battery. I could run my vehicle with one.

Check around and see, maybe it's just the electronics on the Harley that runs them down so fast but they might still work for you. I just know 3 guys in the last couple of months didn't make it all the way to work and had to be rescued when their batteries died on the road on new to newer model harleys. They ride them all the time but still need trickle chargers to keep those batteries up for a few days.

The newer Harleys have a 50 amp alternator, so that's about 550 to 650 watts or thereabouts, compared to the 6th gen VFR's slightly less than 500 watts (I don't know what the 5th gen's is). It would probably work, but if I were going to the trouble of upgrading, I'd use the FH012 mosfet R/R and call it good.
