people should have the right to be stupid and make their own choices.

peer pressure should tell riders that they need to wear helmets, not the guberment

worry about your fuckin self and quit trying to force your will on other folks with legislation.

My general agent is great. The last guy moved into commercial insurance. The new guy I thought when he made his introduction was going to hit me with a sales pitch on how he was going to save me money. No pitch. I have primo credit and he cut my car bill almost in half. The dude is a keeper..

The new guy also rides. Not quite the look depicted in the magazine ads of "Insurance Agents Who Ride". with thier temp tats and doo rags from Bloomingdales.

If you are placing insurance, try the folks I use in Texas for bike stuff. I'm in both Washington and Oregon and all on the up and up here.. NJ ?? not a clue. Ball Insurance in Spring, Texas.

Sidebar: IMO there would be fewer serious incidents and even deaths if instead of hollering about the God given rights to not wear helmets like a bunch of brain dead harleydoods who are being conned by a team of PI lawyers, as riders, a large threat to us is fucking talking on fucking cellphones.

Another one is seeing some asshole with a 70 lb dog on thier fucking lap while driving. At 60 mph that meat missle stopping dead in a few yards is just like taking a deer through a windshield. Giving it some thought, another reason for car seats for the churrins.. and seat belts for Granny.

...and to think I get grief just because I watch Oprah re-runs at the ton. ;(

It has always been my assumption that seat belt and helmet laws exist with this in mind. Healthcare costs are out of control in this country and I'd bet that these laws are the result of trying to minimize inury or harm in the event of such an accident to keep costs down.

no one is telling you that you can't wear a helmet bubba

They might be telling you that it's not cool to wear one on your Harley. So I guess if you have your eyes on a Harley and want to be cool then you might have to make a choice between being a stud and valuing your life.

Yes, Tink - a major part of the problem is the image factor. There is no helmet requirement in Connecticut and 75% of the cyclists around here ride HDs or metric cruisers, many of them without helmets. At least 25% of the sport bike riders I've seen ride without helmets.

When the natural order of selection spins its wheel of fortune, today's stud is tomorrow's dud.

What's missing in all of this is that us smart folks who wear helmets have to pay when one of these pop tards tops himself with no helmet. If he is insured we pay in higher rates. If he is uninsured we pay via Obamacare or indigent funds. All because of some pathetic vanity that weighs as a "freedom" over common sense and safety. We all pay for stupidity. Always.

if the two threads were merged, I think we'd be on page 4 (maybe 5) and it finally became political....

Auto drivers could argue that smart folks ride vehicles surrounded in metal and have seat belts. Why should their rates go up because someone decides to ride without the safety equipment of a car? You are probably about as equally likely to have severe injuries on a bike compared to a car as you would comparing helmet vs no helmet. When was the last time that someone in a car passed you on the highway doing 85mph on one wheel, sitting on the fairing?

Let someone else make the decisions for you and you may end up riding mopeds because they feel they are safer for you.

Yeah. And people that don't drive can argue that cars cause deaths as compared to sitting in your house doing nothing. Your argument is flawed.

    No it isn't.

When you trust in the government to make decisions for you, it becomes a slippery slope.

As said in the OTHER helmet thread; there are more non-riders than there are riders. And by your logic beta', if the argument is about saving a buck then no one should ride for risk of injury and burdun on the struggling health care system that's about to bankrupt the country.
