Ok here we go for my first thread on a forum.
After much stress I swapped my 2010 fireblade for a new VFR1200. Better comfort ment I finally admitted to myself I am getting old :-(
After 500 miles running it in I was concerned that my fuel range was only 90 - 100 miles before empty. Knowing the comments about the fuel range I did what any boy would do and google the problem. Everyone was saying the same thing. Fuel flashes at 140 miles and range is 175 to empty.
So me being cleaver thought the fuel gauge was at fault and decided to run up to about 150 miles before filling up and going back to the dealer. Well it lasted for a grand total of 130 miles. ...... and left me in the middle of know where with no phone signal. Not good.

Finally got the dealer to collect bike and is now looking into the problem. In the mean time I have their loan VFR which I am fuel testing. Have to say it is doing better than mine but not to the figures posted all over the internet forums.

Very very dissapointed at the moment. Even my fireblade did 125 before the light came on and there is no hint of the word 'tourer' in that bike lol.

    Welcome to the forums.

I hate to say it but it's a well known fact around here that the VFR1200 does not have the range of the previous models. My 98 gets about 180-220 per tank depending on how I ride it.

Stick around. There are plenty of people here with 1200's.

Hey may have some good news. Today I had my engine re mapped with a new map just released by honda to solve the fuel issue and the throttle response issues other people have. Just in the nick of time as I am riding across europe starting tommorow.

Riding back from the garage I have to say it was like riding a different bike. The engine and throttle responce was silky smooth compared to how it was before. Well done honda (finally).

Will let you all know how and if the fuel range improved on my return. :)

    good to hear

keep in mind too, that your mileage will likely improve slightly once the engine is fully broken in, not much, but a little

and mileage will vary greatly based on riding style and conditions. For instance I like to really rev my bike, normally keeping it above 7k on the tach, because of that I will get lower mileage than if I always kept the revs at 4-5k

Thanks for that. The silly thing about that is I have not reved or pushed the engine that hard as it is new. If I had been riding like a boy racer on pepsi then I would expect it to have been poor. :)

Well just got back from 1800 miles across france. Great roads, great bends and even better than that was my fuel range is well and truely sorted. Now getting 160 miles to a tank before reserve and that is at any speeds so i have now gone from wanting to sell it to loving it. well done honda eventually.
