I have an r 1 rectifier for my 98 vfr 800.I found out how to wire it...but , i saw a thread where someone tapped into the earth wire and live wire and run strait to the battery with a fuse in between to stabilize charging. Is this possible? if so,do i need to beef up the wires to the stator as well? ... is earth wire ground and live wire hot?:vtr2:

Save yourself the hassle and potential of frying something, go to wiremybike.com and get the VFRness. I have one on my 99 coupled with the ricks motorsport rectifier and it is perfect.

A fuse would not stabilize charging your battery. If the fuse burns out it would actual stop charging the bike just guessing by the way you wrote it. Pictures would speak a 1000 words.

Hi that is exactly how I wired my new R/R in. There is 10 gauge wire from my RR to the battery on both sides. The Plus side has a maxi fuse, Maxi Fuses. I used a Shindengen FH012 R/R.

I had to be a bit creative on mounting. I moved it from under the seat to under the left side panel. I welded on two tabs onto the sub frame. I had to move the fuel pump to an under the seat location. I think the space was for a tool pouch.

I read that my 86 vfr750 has a 30 amp alternator and the FH012 is a 50 amp unit. So far it only gets warm to the touch.

Oh, my bike's a '98. I think PO replaced the R/R with an OE one.

If you didn't know this was out there here a link to the factory service manual in PDF form.

Owners Manuals and other - VFR Discussion

You have to be a member to download it but it will be pretty handy. I'm not sure why this board doesn't have the manuals if we do it is not an easy find like it was over there.

For OUR generation VFR's, I Always keep a spare rectifier in parts bin(shop for best price OEM/Google) and chek that harness@ plug-in junction! Enjoy!
