I have a Powerbronze double bubble screen on mine.

I am 5.11` and it creates more wind noise (turbulence) than the standard screen but less wind hitting my helmet and chest, especially at highway speeds: I think it would actually work better if I was taller as when I stand a little on the pegs the noise reduces a lot.... I wear ear plugs anyway so the noise isn't a big deal. Normally a naked bike will have less wind noise as there is no turbulence created by the screen but more wind pressure on your helmet and chest, so riding without the screen will be a lot quieter.

You have to ask yourself the question whether you want less wind noise or wind pressure.

    Hi PA,

I traded out the stock windscreen on my '98 about four years ago because I do

long trips and wanted a little more wind protection.

I put the tall Givi windscreen on and I love it. I am 5' 10" tall

I highly recommend this windscreen, also, for its high quality.

Thanks again for the info guys! My road home from work was one of the most relaxing rides on my VFR to date. The wind noise was far less than any prior ride. I love it without the windscreen! I may be looking at purchasing that Laminar Lip, though, in the near future. I'm sure, too, once it's cold out I'll want a windscreen again.

Glad it worked for you. I took mine out today for the first extended ride on the highway since I cut mine down. Very relaxing ride. The wind hit my chest keeping me cool and taking the strain off of the arms. I was actually riding with bent arms for the first time. It was still noisy in my helmet but right before the end of the ride, I found that the helmet had about a 1" gap allowing air to shoot up from what's left of the windshield into the helmet just under the right ear. When I put a finger in that location it got perfectly quiet just like without the shield. Now that I know where it came from it will be an easy fix.

FYI, what I did to the shield is put it back on the bike, tape it off and then cut it at the last corner of the fairing with a rotary tool. I took atleast 3" off of it. I then took a belt sander and smoothed and evened it all out, removed the shield and took some black plastics paint that I picked up at home depot and shot it with that. It came out very clean looking. I was going to find rubber stripping to put across the cut on top but couldn't find any and the paint finished the job up for me. I think it looks like it came that way. I'll post some pics as soon as I can.

Now it feels like all the Interceptors that I have had in the past. I may not need to buy heli bars now. I still want to find a good touring shield for the Summer though.

Any updates on this? What did you end up doing? I am 5'11 6' ish and have a 112 mile commute to work 90% highway. I am just curious to see what you did so that I may follow suite.

I've been riding mine with the shield trimmed down fora couple of weeks. Still get a little noise but that's because the helmet leaks under the ear. As far as comfort goes, haven't regretted it once. It is so much more comfortable on the arms now that the wind does more of the work and it is cooler also in the mesh jacket now that more air hits me.

I cut mine down and straight across with the tip of the fairing. I may play with it some more and let it dip down in the center of the shield a little more. This winter I will get a touring shield but I know that it won't be as comfortable because the weight will shift back to the wrists now.

Pull your shield off and try it. It only takes a couple of minutes and a screw driver to remove it.

I put on a Givi unit a couple of months ago and the wind blast hits me right at the bottom of my visor. I took it off recently and put the stock unit back on, and I found the wind pressure on my chest relieved the pain on my wrists, and wind noise was significantly reduced as well. I put the Givi unit back on again just to convince myself, and sure enough, the issues came back. I'm 5'11' so this screen may be better for either a taller or shorter rider. Too bad, 'cause it looks great on the bike, and it wasn't cheap either. If anyone is interested in buying it off me, send me a pm.

Just wanted to update. I am still running without a windshield and it has been fabulous! I have my Zero Gravity windshield hanging out here at work, but won't be putting it back on 'til sometime later this summer or fall when the temps drop.

When my Givi broke and flew off into my chest and face on the interstate, I put the lower OEM windscreen back on. MUCH better. I'll never go back to a taller one. (I was 6' 1", but may have shrunk a bit over the last few decades). Gravity can be cruel.

Figured since the riding season is almost upon us that I'd bump this :) Anyone personally run the Laminar screen by chance?
