I was at a local bike salvage yard this past weekend when a guy who works there was checking out my VFR 750. He commented that he had a 1984 Inretceptor 500 that he bought new with only 3 miles on the clock. The three miles were from him pushing the bike around for all these years. He has never fired the bike, never had gas in it, totally a showroom bike. My question is what is this worth? I don't want it, and didn't ask if he was interested in selling, but what would some of you 500 guys pay for something like this?

Yea, but I wouldn't think KBB would apply to something like this. I'm pretty sure he would not let it go for $1,500.

If I could ask, where is this bike located? Sounds like a great find!

The guy works in a salvage yard called Wymers in Newark Ohio, which is just east of Columbus. He didn't say he was selling just told me he had it.

Thanks for the post. I'm tempted to take a road trip to Ohio ;-)

    You had asked about value.

Of course it's really up to how much a buyer wants a bike but for reference low mileage mint to near mint examples of the VF500F are running $2,800, give or take, on eBay.

Given that this is a super rare example it is easily over 3k, IMO.

Thanks I have not been following them on e-bay, and I know someone who is really into the 500 might shell out a pretty penny to get one like this.

I'm like 45 minutes from Newark. I actually used to live in Newark for 3 years for school. Might be worth a ride out to see the thing and take some pictures.

I agree with invisible cities. If this bike is truly brand new and never ridden, then it is worth far more than what it went for new. It's tough enough to find one with low miles, let alone no miles. It is extremely rare and there would be a buyer willing to pay the money. I might just be one of them!

One problem its nevee been rode! Id rather have a bike with 40k than one that's been collecting dust. That's my two cents.

Matt, I get what you are saying, but if this 500 is indeed in showroom condition and with essentially zero miles, it's collectable value is off the charts.

The owner would be smart to list this on Rare Sportbikes for Sale or on eBay, should he decide to sell.

For those of us who think the 500 is the cat's pajamas, yourself included of course, this is one rare find.

I can see this one going for some serious coin.
