I got sick of my plate being under the exhust and relocated it useing stock parts that I modified in order to still use hard bag mounts.

Due to graphic nature of sissors jack spreading mufflers these pictures will NOT BE SHOWN. NO VFR WAS HARMED DURING THIS MOD.

    Tools
    Dremel tool.
    jig saw.
    file sander.
    Sissors jack.
    Drill.

Fist step was to remove stock parts.
then mark what I wanted to cut off.

The metal reinforcement is needed to mount hard bags.

then time to mark and cut.

Then mounted stock plate light, I org set at 3/4" down from "V" but then redid it at 1/8" down. I also cut off spacer off of back of plate light.

Also relocated wires for light as well.

The gold plate is threaded but you need to put the two lock nuts on as well they are needed to carry the weight of the hard bags.

six bolts total to reinstall and finishes product. ( the little wings are to mount reflectors I have to have them to get sticker and did not want stick on ones on my exhust )

You can use LED light but I thought I would do this using just stock parts.

Let me know what you think and happy modding.

Good job, 02. Looks clean. That was the first thing I did to my 2000 was remove the plate light and bracket all together and trim the plastic all the way up to leave only enough room for the plate. The 2000 has a flat plastic piece on the bottom of the tail light that can be drilled through to allow light to shine down on the plate.

The VFR looks so much sportier without the tail.

Nice job! IMO a must do on most bikes. As drewl says I trimmed my 5th gen too. Instead of drilling the lens, I relocated my license plate lamp. There is a pic in my gallery.

Curious... How many inches do you have between the pipes? Or did you even touch the pipes at all?

    Thanks!

I dont know off hand, I think the plate is 7", I ended up shimming one side of the pipe 1/2" and the other side 3/8"
