I've got this flat spot....Ok, not on on my head...between 4300 and 4600 rpm. More pronounced the lower the gear, of course. It's and 03, I picked it up about a month ago and has a measly 5k on it. Some older gentleman had traded it in on a BMW LT, which makes me think, given the mileage, the bike was never abused. Haven't really done much to it. Changed the oil, new battery, did all the fluids, and I know it is due for a major tune, but it has been snowing and the dealership is a ways away. What is really crunching my nuts is that I got rid of my own BMW because I could never get the FI right, despite a Techlusion box, hot plugs, snokel mods, etc. I will take the bike in, but you guys got any ideas? It is darn spooky in a turn to feel like somebody has a bungee cord on the end of you bike, and you just ran outta stretch! Then it snaps out of it, but it is really pronounced. No other symptoms, good fuel economy, not running hot, etc... You guys rock. I plan to contribute more when I figure this bike out!
Hey CL--Great to have you here. I just picked up an 04 in Dec with under 1k miles. I have noticed a slight flat spot right below 5k. It feels more like the bike doesn't want to stay at steady throttle, almost like it either wants to back off or more it wants to keep reving. If i ride through it toward the redline it is barely noticeable. This bike seems to want to be flogged constantly, which I can't say I mind:biggrin: Riding this bike hard I think will be more fun than constantly reigning in a literbike, which is how it always felt on the street trying to stay out of jail.lane: Isay ride it like you stole it! for info: mine has no power commander, but Staintune slip ons.
You have fallen to to a conspiracy known as Honda-voodoo! Honda-Voodoo- (noun) The articulation of EFI mapping to obtain low emmissions at cruising RPM's in an effort to meet stringent EPA requirements for 2008 standards. The only known cure for Honda-voodoo is to install a power commander, preferably with a custom map done for your bike. in all seriousness, the EFI map makes the throttle feel vague and un responsive at those RPM's.
Ok, fine. I snag a power commander and do the mods....I guess I am familiar enough with this hoooie- thanks for the info.
