Laying a simple stripe on a rim is a piece of cake. The rim needs to be clean. No grease, chain wax, road grunge ect. There are masking tapes avaiable that are pre-cut. The basics are to apply the tape, remove what you need for the width of the stripe, lightly abrade the now open area and lay in your stripe with either a dagger or a soft bristle artists brush. Highly recommended is a paint called "One Shot" .

Take the wheels off the bike. On the bike is a PITA.

Let the paint dry a day or two before riding the bike.

Anytime one must resort to rattlecans it is advisable to check the MSDS or the listed mix of fractions in the cans. Case in point: Methylene Chloride the major active component of solvent paint stripper is sometimes used in small amounts in rattlecans as an anti-caking fraction.

Case #2 : Methylene Chloride will dissolve even cured One Shot. One Shot is an alkyd enamel and of recent lead free.

Case #3: One Shot has been an industry standard for pinstriping, signwriting, furniture, trim, doors and reverse painting on glass for many years. Clearcoating is an option but IMO should be professionally applied with the proper painting tools and safety equipment. The shit is toxic.. an isocyanate.

Trivial trivia: Von Dutch of Von Dutch fame would use One Shot but was so fast and accurate, striped in automotive (nitrocellulose) lacquer with a shot of retarder.

A check of the MSDS of the VHT clearcoat might indicate it is a acrylic and not a clear coat in the sense of the two component clearcoats used in automotive painting. IOW if not prepped for same it may debond and get really shitty looking real quick on a wheel.

Case #3a RTFM mainly because here is what the folks from VHS say about this particular product:

"VHT Wheel Paint provides a great finish and real protection for all standard and custom wheels. Even on highways, wheels take a beating. Salt, sand, brake dust and rocks severely damage the appearance and protection of the wheel surface. This unique product resists chipping, cracking and fading, while protecting the wheel surface from oxidation, and is available in six popular colors plus clear coat. Warning: Clear coat is for use on polished or bare metal surfaces only, and should not be used over any painted finishes."

Ain't nothin wrong with the VHT line, misuse is usually the cause of FUBAR.

you guys are getting far to technical.

I just wanted to see if anybody has put any decals or pinstripping around the edge. Wanted to see what red or black looked like. I'm thinking about going silver as to not attract to much attention
