So i read a review on this site that compares the gen 4 against a gen 5. Now I'm kind of leaning towards a gen 4 as the article seem to imply that a gen 4 is a little more forgiving for new riders due to the gen 5 F.I. This is my 2nd season riding my Ninja 250. Just enjoying it. Plan to pick up a VFR over the summer or fall. No particular time frame but I'm pulling the trigger if I see a cherry one. Then recently I saw a nice gen 3 come up for sale at a good price.

What are the key differences owning/riding a gen 3 vs a gen 4? I'm particularly interested in riding position as I'm a little shorter at 5'6" and 29" inseam.

It's gonna take time to get used to the gen 4 at your leg length, but i'm the same, and know it's doable.

    Never rode a gen 3, so i can't compare.

I have ridden the Gen3 and Gen4. They are really the same bike. Gen4 has a slightly refined suspension at the expense of different looks. Like women, buy the one that appeals to you more. You cant go wrong

Gen 3: you can't find any slip on exhaust and fairing parts are getting harder to find. Gen 4: parts are more available. I changed my 3rd gen exhaust to a 4th gen exhaust so I can get any 4th gen slip on I want. Other than that, both bikes are very similar with the 4th gen have different cosmetic changes. P.S. the conversion was tough trying to get a 20+ year old exhaust out of my bike.
