    Hi All,

I am a the extremely proud owner of a White 2009 plate VFR 800 VTEC which I absolutely adore.

When I bought it it came with the full Honday panniers and top box, with honda mounting bracket already fitted.

I have used the top box quite a bit, up to the other day when it fell off of my bike on the motorway doing about 80. Skidded along for quite some way but didn't burst open (which I was quite impressed with).

Upon inspection of what happened it appears that the red button which you push to release the top box from the mounting has sheared clean through. I am positive that this is a manufacturing fault in the metal and am wondering if

    a) Has this ever happened to anybody else and

    b) Do you think I stand any chance of getting Honda to replace if I can prove its a manufacturing fault.

Any and all replies graciously received.

    Thanks in advance.

    James

Yeah, I'd take that in and say "Sir, I found a slight problem with this equipment." Sounds like a manufacturing flaw in the material.

Go to your dealer and complain. If you got a good relationship they may do something for you. Side note, in 1993 I owned a Nighthawk 750 and installed an aftermarket seat, (wont give a shameless plug here cause I think they suck and make hard arse seats!) Well anyway the side panel developed a crack after a while. Funny thing was I had the same seat on a 91 of same make and model and it didnt do this. I took it back and they made the claim and I had a new side panel. Guess it depends on whether or not your liked or not.

Could you have over packed it? Not accusing, just wondering.

    RECALL on Honda top box.

Anyone who has owned a gear driven cam VFR will wonder why Honda went back to camchains on this V-4 cylinder engined Honda VFR800 V-Tec. Sadly, they're in danger of being able to say `told you so' to owners who have had the Honda VFR800 V-Tec RECALLED for camchain associated work under warranty. Apart from that, the Honda VFR800 V-Tec looks built to last 100,000 miles, but does need some expensive servicing along the way.

    Another post on the net.

Interseting about the recall. Will give Honda a call in a minute and see what they have to say.

Thanks for all your help guys.

PS - Am sure it wan't overpacked. Only had a laptop, powers supply and a pair of shoes in it. Have stuffed way more than that in there over time and it was always OK.

Will let you know how I get on with Honda. Fingers crossed.
