i am having the same problem on a 96 vfr 750 i have blown three sets of headlamp bulbs and the r/r gets very hot in just a matter of minutes i checked my battery with the bike off and its at the proper voltage. I then checked it with the bike at idle and it was 12.56, but when i connected my voltage regulator to it and rode it around the block in my neighborhood the voltage would spike and shut my hids off and after shutting the bike off they will turn back on i am not able to ride at night at all now bwcause of the headlights malfunctioning i would really like some help cause i am at my breaking point with it. any help would be appreciated thanks travis

Your stator is putting out the juice but your regulators are not regulating. Checking it with engine running at mid rpm will show probably 18+ volts. Time for a rectifier/regulator.

When I got my bike with 49,000 on it, it had a replacement unit and was bad doing exactly the same thing as yours. I put one of those 50 amp mosfet units. So far it runs cooler. We'll see hot it is mid summer.

i wouldn't think that 3 r/r's would be bad..not all in a row anyways.1 more and i'll have more in brunt up r/r's than in the bike..park it in the yard and plant flowers in it i guess

I bought a kit that included connectors, do a search for: SHINDENGEN FH012AA MOSFET REGULATOR/RECTIFIER
    There are several sources.

The problem with this unit on my bike is that it is bigger than the original one so I had to fab up some mounts and move it down under the side cover. There is surprising little room under the covers of these bikes.

I'd suggest tapping into one of the regulator's green (ground) wires and connecting that wire directly to the battery negative terminal, eliminating possibly weak connections within the wiring harness.

Did you get a new rr stretch? You are getting to much electricity through everything. That is why wires are getting hot, battery is in self destruct mode and bulbs are blowing. How long will the electronic ignition last?

welp i made a heatsink from 1/4 in alum. and one cpu fan tied into the taillights. started to rain so i couldnt ride but i let it run for bout 15 mins and seems to be alot better, battery wasn't hot, drop of water will stand on r/r but sizzles off alum plate..hopefully i won't have to jump ground...will post if i go that route...

What is the voltage that you are getting out of that at 5000 rpm.

I just want to add that you should periodically check the plastic plug that connects the 3 stator wires to the main wiring harness (just behind the right mid fairing) Many people check the R/R plug and connecor but don't bother to check the stator connector. My 3rd Gen left me stranded recently and I had to put in a new wiring harness and then cut the burnt connectors out and replaced with bullet style connectors.

400 miles later and no problems, she runs the best she ever has, also has stopped the engine surging while acc. all wires and connectors are staying cool. the alum plate and cpu fan works great, but where i live i'm surrounded by mountains and thats were i like to ride, the bikes get really hot so this winter i'm going to move the r/r to somewere on the forks, and clean/repaint the frame and mod the tail..so i have a question....it being an f2, all stock (minus the r/r and afew connectors) number 111th. would it be a mistake to mod it any , like hurt the value or are there like thousands of these bikes, searching the forums now for wider wheel converison, front and back .is there a simple bolt on or is it all modding..if anyone has a link SEND THEM
