Got a ticket near Mount Saint Helens - 69 in a 55. The whole thing is a little odd the way the cop picked me off and I wasn't doing 69.

I'm tired of doing the speed limit and cops turning around to follow me like I'm up to no good.

Don't you normally have to sign a ticket? I wasn't sure if Washington was different.

Anyone have any luck changeling a ticket?

I have a conspiracy theorist friend here in CO who did a lot of studying up on this kind of stuff on the internet. He went into court (don't quote me and I'm cutting it WAY short) but that laws were put in place to protect others, and if there was no one else around, you weren't putting anyone else in danger, so you technically didn't break any laws. He also said that the state of Colorado was an act of congress and that it was impossible to commit a crime INSIDE an act of congress, its not a physical thing. Believe it or not, the judge got so tongue-tied and frazzled that he dismissed the speeding and running of a stop sign right on the spot.
I would have to get him over here and he would have to type out at least a couple pages to tell you all what he said, but it worked for him. He also said he was super nervous because he read about these loopholes, but he was worried that he didn't study up enough (he was basically giving the statement that a lawyer would give after studying the law for years in school)and that it might backfire by insulting the judge.

I always dress very nice, use the most polite and eloquent language possible, speak confidently but with humility, embellish ("my speedo isn't accurate, but I'm trying to save up to get it fixed), and talk to the district attourney to try to plea bargain a little. If you haven't had any other tickets and do all of those things, you can usually get put on probation with a lesser sentence/fine. Never, ever say you were just in a hurry. That justs shows you aren't punctual...and they don't like that, they are schedule nazis.

Sorry for the run-on, but that is my advice.

Just an informal group here on VFRW
    6th gen militia=pretty self explanatory
mine is an '02-first year with vtec=1st vtec battalion
Mine is italian red=italian red company

You have a 6th gen, search for the 6th gen roll call thread and you can get your name on the list. I was the 279th one to put my name on, hence the #279.

Oh and good luck fighting it, I hear its pretty tough. Sometimes best just to work them down to a lesser fine. If you fight and it doesn't work out they can nail you full force. Its your word against theirs, and to be honest, courts don't like bikes in my experience.

Fight it, 69 in a 55 is not endangering anyone.
Ask why the limit is 55. Is 55 safer than 70 and higher like the rest of the world? Of course not.
55 is set so the man can generate fines and for no other reason.
Most of the highways are now 65 anyways.
    Good luck.

I recently received a speeding ticket from a fellow VFR rider who happens to also be a LEO. When he pulled me over with his ST1300 he asked some questions about my bike ( seat, bars pipe PC ect.) he told me he had one the same year with almost the same setup. I thought maybe I would get by with a warning, but he wrote me up anyway.

Advice = dont get caught next time = don't speed. The odds are stacked against you in the courts, and believe me when I tell you that they've heard every excuse from speeders litigating their own defenses.

What usually works out to be less painful in the long run, is to hire a lawyer (these guys are all in the same club), pay him, he pleas it down for you and you walk away with an asshole that doesn't gape as much. The schister lawyer shares the proceeds from your hard earned money with the fellow members in the club - that's how it works usually.

    Speeding Tickets

I have only been caught speeding twice on my '03 VFR. Both were for excessive speeding. The first in Aug/04 doing 130kph in an 80kph zone and the second in June/06 doing 150kph in a 90kph zone. The tickets cost $368 each. Both were from RCMP coming from opposite direction using active radar. No use fighting the tickets. With recent changes to driver license and insurance it doesn't pay to speed especially excessive. I have been more careful where and how much throttle twisting I do. Vifferman03

Thanks for the advice! Not sure if I'll fight it, but I'm tired of the cops especially on my motorcycle. I'll have to watch it and I wish they had traffic school up here to erase the ticket.

Even though I got a ticket I'd still like to hit top speed this summer. Of course it will be out in the middle of nowhwere probably on my ride to Colorado.

Your last sentence really tells it all. I think your should be tired of something other than the cops. Tickets area a price we pay if we choose to ignore the speed limits.

I respect cops. I apologized to the officer and wished him a good day. They have beyond a stressful job and I 100% back them.

Since changing to the VFR... I just hate when I roll into small towns obeying the speed limit, and they decide to turn around and follow me. Never got that on my previous bike.

I ride safe day after day but I will open it up in the right location for a mile or so.

I detect a hint of sarcasm. I was 8 miles over the limit at a downhill section of the street where the limit changes from 40 to 30 MPH. I'm sure that being a leo, you have never exceeded the speed limit on your bike. ;)

You totally missed read my comment. I just meant, I thought he would of let you off because you hit up conversation with the cop on VFR's.

No sarcasm, I apologize if it came of that way. : )

Well, here are my experiences... I've gotten tickets in my truck and on the bike in CA. Both times I sent the fine in, did "traffic school" via the internet or whatever you call it, and it didn't show up on my license. Just this year alone, I've already gotten two tickets on the VFR in my home state of NV, and I have a friend who is an attorney, so he gets them reduced to parking tickets for me (at no charge), but I still have to pay the fine.

After my two tickets in CA and prior to these two tickets, I used an Escort Passport 8500x radar detector on the bike, which I piped into my helmet via bluetooth adapter and Chatterbox xbi. While using that combination, I heard many cops before they saw me, and NEVER got pulled over. The thing was worth its weight in gold for the speeding tickets it saved me. However, one fine ride to the International Motorcycle Show this past December was entirely in the rain... there, while there, and back. My radar detector and bluetooth adapter got waterlogged so I had the radar detector repaired satisfactorily and got a new bluetooth adapter. The signal on this adapter is not as strong as the last one I had and the one I had seems to be out of production. Now I do not hear the signal in my helmet, so have been a victim of the men who issue tickets. I've been keeping my speed down while continuing to research options for piping in a louder signal or getting a visual display....

Until you have some similar protection, MCInsights, I would say keep your speed down.... unfortunately.... :-(

I will have to look into some high tech accessories but for now and for a while I'll be watching my speed.

Didn't think I was that far off with 65 in a 55, on an unfamiliar road, with no speed limit sign in sight for miles.

I don't mind paying the fine, it's just the insurance rates over the next three years.

    Thanks!
