There are several differences between the US/European market and Japanese market VFRs. Some of the things that I've discovered (unhappily) so far are that Japanese models use different cams, smaller diameter headers, more restrictive mufflers, and different pitch threads on the hydraulic fittings. One good difference, as you can see in the photographs, is that the Japanese model has a rubber air dam positioned under the rear of the tank that prevents engine heat from reaching your legs.

I haven't done any research, but it may be possible to order that part from your local Honda dealer and have it installed on your US/European spec bikes.

I was raised on Triumphs and Nortons (old school) and prefer to be able to see motorcycle engines rather than having them hidden behind plastic; so, I was considering removing that rubber part so that I would be able to see at least the rear cam cover. However, all the complaints of roasted thighs I've seen on this forum have persuaded me to leave well enough alone.

Yeah, my legs get toasty and it hasn't even been hot here yet. Just wait until summer!

Sorry I didn't notice before, but it looks like this only applies to the 6th generation VFRs.
