There's nothing like a older bike it almost like they have there own attitude and soul cheesey junk like that. I miss riding my 500 the 800 is nice but kinda boring and lifeless

I can definitley understand that. I miss the 2nd gen a bit....but riding the 4th gen is just dreamy and amazing.

In contrast my buddy brought my old 1st gen over so I could help him with an oil change and that things just felt like ass.

Hey slowbird. I don't know how I missed this thread until now, but congratulations on the new bike. It looks to be in great shape which as you know is tough to find, especially for the non-current models. Did you get the rear seat cowl with it? That would be a nice addition to it.

I still have my 2nd Gen. It is a great bike, but it is more or less of a show piece now. I've ridden it back to back with the 6th Gen and there is just nothing to compare. I'm sure it's the same with the 4th Gen as well. I like looking at the '86, but riding it, you're really going backwards when you've had something newer.

I guess it's time to update your avatar!

one should not forget where he started.......

I am fairly certain that when I get a newer bike the gen 2 will sit and maybe be ridden every so often, but I am keeping it to just have something to tinker around with.... besides When TOe flies out he can ride the original crusty mobile

Thanks. It is in quite good shape...and yes it came with the rear cowl. I installed it recently....I'll try and upload some pics.

    I agree 100%...and If I had a garage I'd probably keep the 2nd gen.

LOL....I'll be changing my Avatar too.

Don't get me wrong...I'm not dissing the 1st gens. You have to understand how it feels going back in time over 10 years. To a bike with 3 times the mileage, and only 1 owner that actually cared about the bike. it feels like crap.

I still look at my old 1st get with fondness and love.

Nice looking bike slow! If interested there is a good write up on the 750FR in J. Ryder's, Honda's V-Force. He mentions the NR inspired aesthetics along with major tech advancements that make this one top notch bike. Worth a read.

Glad this has all worked out. It's been some fun reading over the last couple years starting with your 'early' Gen 1 days. I got a laugh out of CR's post above (and agree with him) but in a lighthearted way I was kinda glad you took those other bikes apart ;-) It was always fun reading what mischief you were getting yourself into while turning a wrench.

Much better. When you see these bikes without the seat cowl, they just don't look right. You've got to be pleased with this bike. What an upgrade for you. I like the new avatar too. Put on some more miles and let us know what you think.

LOL....yeah, the issues I've had with my 1st and 2nd gen were pretty comical at times.

I learned a lot throughout my misadventures. 1st gen taught me a lot about bike mechanics in general and the 2nd gen really had me diving in head first into the carbs. I have learned quite a bit.

But now I'm just gonna enjoy the ride....try not and scratch the paint...and hopefully live happily ever after.

Slowbird, let me know if you still have the '86 for sale? I'm the dude who test rode it for Squirelman when he worked over the carbs.
    Thanks! Mark
