I sold my "86 700 rwb, to a kidd I went to school with. (Graduated) 1985! So he is 5 miles away, and I'
ll get to she here around town and at all the class reunion's. I bought this one from a guy in Iowa, 186 miles away. It has sat the last 6-7 years. Fork seals are leaking, just cleaned the carbs and runs without the choke now! Also has clutch Chatter like you would not believe at idle. Talked to previous owner monday, and said previous owner had put in new clutch before he had bought it. The dealer told him it needed it for some reason. But anyway, Could it be just clutch springs are bad from sitting so long? I have the cover off and I can feel the difference in height by sight! Yes, springs are off the bike. Another question I have is the outer Clutch basket bolted to gear behind it or is it supposed to move one way or the other while gear does not? I know there are springs behind the outer basket, can they be replaced also? Puurrrss like a kitten, Knocks like a son of a gun Idling! Just Grab the clutch handle a teenie but and the noise is gone! Also rev it up over 1500 rpms and is gone. Checked oil pump chain, and that is all good also. Any suggestions of what I should do? Thank's in advance, Rexter

You got the bike alot of us dream about !! Nice move, Rexter.

Clutch noise near idle ??? First thing to try would be a really accurate carb synch.

your clutch noise may be from your carbs needing to be sync'd. If the pilot screws are out of adjustment or carbs out of sync or both. The motor doesn't fire evenly. The crank will get jittery (lack of a better description) and rattle the plates. I'll bet if you get the carbs in sync the noise will go away.

Either that or someone put in a Barnett clutch. They always make noises.
