I hate to pull a Bill Clinton, but can we define old?

51 and riding a VFR. Only room for one bike, so the Goldwing will have to wait

51 this year riding a '99. Actually considered getting a maxi-scooter while the VFR was in storage for the last 8 years while the kids grew up, but finally realized that I should just keep the saddlebags on the bike all the time and now it's as useful as a scooter but still has that wonderful motor. Is there any sound in the mechanical world that beats a V4 motor at 7k+ RPM? I haven't heard it yet if there is. But officer, I wasn't speeding. I just go zero to speed limit as fast as possible!

I'm only 29...moved over from a 04 599, and I absolutely love my VFR. It's an 02, and I've had it about 3-4 weeks, put around 1000 miles on it so far. My wife was down with it, as I was terribly depressed and sad looking after I sold the hornet. She said, hell, if it's a good deal and it's what you want...do it.

Now, my mother on the other hand, who knows nothing about bikes...freaked the F out about it. I think there is a lot of misconception about bikes with fairing. The 599 was a 600 rev monster, but it was unfaired. Wife, mother...any non-bike I knew was okay with that. Pickup the VFR, awesome for short/long trips, commuting etc...more comfortable, heavier for the highways etc... but because it was faired...OMG, everyone has an opinion.

I don't think it's a young, or old persons bike. I think it is...how do you say this without sounding like a jackass...a "mature" persons bike? I'm not out to impress anyone, or to make a lot of noise (in fact, someone was next to me when I started it up at work and said, "wow...it's so quiet!") I like to think I have good throttle control, never try to outride my limits etc...

what the heck I'm rambling...but I think you'll find a lot of mature riders riding a VFR...... and age has nothing to do with that.

Regrettably she won't ride, but I understand. When she was young she was 2 up with her boyfriend and he had a low speed fall when a car turned in front of him. She wound up underneath the bike and got a pretty bad burn on her leg from the exhaust pipe. That soured her on motorcycles. I can't argue with her, I don't want to be a passenger either! She has her own hobbies, and we both firmly believe that to stay together you have to take time for yourself, it keeps you from resenting your partner. Great to hear you are still riding, I hope to follow your example!

    54 and back in it

I picked up a 2010 VFR1200 last month. First bike in 15 years. Last bike before that a 93 CBR900RR. Had a couple of of VFRs before that. If I happen to get whacked while riding, my daughter is old enough to cope now. I am SOOO loving riding again. The way it focuses the mind is incredible.

    BrandX, you have nailed it!
''I am SOOO loving riding again. The way it focuses the mind is incredible.''

    Thats EXACTLY how I feel.
I was also away from bikes a long time, and will admit to worrying a little about whether or not I could still cut it.
I have been taking it very gently, but have now started to open my VFR up more and more, and loving it!
My brain feels fresher than for a long time!

Got my 6th gen last year at age 53. Rode an RZ350 from age 27-35. Then a Hawk GT from age 35-52 which I sold last year. I added a Sargent, Convertibars, 1" lower pegs from Knight design, MRA Vario and hardbags. It is now a very comfortable ride. The bars helped the most to take weight off my wrists. I'm only 5'8" but the pegs give my knees some relief too. It's a great bike which I'll keep for a long time.

Hey - who you calling 'old'? I resemble that remark - er - I guess - at least relative to 50 yo. Just turned 61 yo this month. I bought my VFR on New Year's Eve, so just now really starting to get the feel of her. OLD?? Nah - I was thinking I was kinda YOUNG myself. Just got back from a 100 mile ride and was railing in some curves. Not really - but 80+mph in posted 25mph curves is 'railing' to me. The Vtech was singing her music.

LOL - Tell her the bike will KEEP YOU YOUNG. Maybe she'll go for it.

EDIT: Oops - my bad on the mph thing. I had a video and after reviewing it, the 80 was in the straights (the only time I glanced at the speedo). The actual curves were more like 65 mph. Sorry 'bout all the hoopla over that. Just a senior moment I guess.

    Nice V4play,
Just did a similar one, did 3400 kms in 5 days through NY, VT, NH and Maine from north west of Toronto.
Any of you 'old guys' ever notice how many young street squirrels hardly put any miles on?

Side note-on my trip I found the the stock seat on the 6th gen is absolutely fantastic. Had a Corbin on my 5th gen and don't think it was this nice. Good job Honda for putting a decent seat on a bike designed to do more than track sessions! I was a bit reluctant to give up the gear drive and go to VTEC, but have to say the chassis and suspension improvements seem to have made up for it.

46yrs old and have always ridden the V4 interceptors, I have put over a total of 100,000 road miles on my VF's and VFR I own and age has never been a factor as when I climb in the saddle my wife says I revert back to the age of 20 . LOL

    Awesome thread to read!!

Too old my ass!!!! I'm 43, I work at the Royal Flying Doctor Service where we have a great group of 35 + ranging up to 58 years old!!!

I've had my brand new VFR for 9 months and done 10,000 kms already. My girlfriend doesn't "get" the staintunes with no baffles, that I had fitted last month, nor does she get the grey cammos that I wear whilst on the bike.

It's not their fault, they just don't get it, it's a biological thing!

I'll be riding until my back gives out, even then I could ride an FJR 1300!!!!
