they're 7/8" diameter. measure em for length. grips are relatively universal for bikes.

Oh, incidentally, our older bikes have a longer grip length than most newer street bikes.

I picked up some ProGrips that were right on 5" long and still have about <1/8" of space between the control pods and where the grip starts. Prior to that I figured some 4.75"s would be okay, but it was unacceptable (to me). I made sure to get open-ended grips so that I could leave about <1/8" space on the end of the bar as well (after unrusting and painting black, it's not so bad). It's not that big of a deal, but if you're going A/M you will probably need to know this to save you some pain.

The fringe can be trimmed to metric and the chrome is measured in mils. 7/8" bar diameters are SAE standard. Some things are changed for expediency some are standard even though it may seem odd. Case in point in another area: The thread in the base of most all cameras is 1/4- 20 or on larger format cameras a 3/8" thread.

So do we blame George Eastman or Mssrs. Harley and Davidson?

Blame the Egg, All kidding aside you need some medium "apes" if your gona go the fringe route. Think of it like this, you wont be spending anymore money on deoderant cause your pits are gona be aired out with that stretched out ridin position.
Pro-Grip makes some tasty foam superbike grips, they are like 772. Makes my viffer look trick

Actually the right grip is larger than 7/8", Probably an inch. ATV's use 7/8" on both sides as they don't use a twist grip throttle.

I used to ride with nothing but black fringe. Black is so out now. The length is really the most important part of the self flagellation equation.

That is probably correct if one has a limited historical perspective. Are there any grips for ATVs with fringe? Any color but black will do.

Black is OUT? So the burning question is this: What colour is the new BLACK? Hope you dont say White

Thats some funny chit fer sure, they have to hate themselves for buying into that BS/side note: a HD and a Japanese multi cylinder bike can live in harmony, from what I have seen. Not talking from experience though. There is a word for that, just cant think of it right now. Cheers

Bob I forgot to mention that dirt grips are shorter than street grips. Something like 4.5 vs 5.5"
I usually don't like fringe slapping my arms. Maybe elsewhere :)

Black fringe being out is not something I decided. I got this info off the net from everyone's favorite official Harley-Davidson poster girl and dominatrix, Miss Kitty Litter.
