Hey guys, I have a 1996 VFR750 that was left out all winter on Chicago streets. Before you get on me, this was not my decision.

At any rate, aside from some light surface corrosion on just about everything, the bike starts, runs, and rides. Its leaking gas, which I have traced back to a stuck float (I think) in the front right carb.

I've taken the plastics and the tank off, as well as the upper parts of the air box, and I can see the gas is leaking from a overflow tube. I can also see gas continuously dripping on top of the butterfly valve from the top of the air box..

I just tried the lucas carb cleaner to run through the gas. No dice. I was about to try some Marvel mystery oil, as that has cleared stuck floats for me in my cb750. But, if that doesn't work, what else can I do aside from taking the carbs off the bike? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

take the carbs off and clean them. dont depend on some "miracle in a bottle" to fix it. those are temporary solutions to a long term issue. fix it right.

    carb leak

my 96 leaks gas every time i take it out of storage. Just let it sit for 30 minutes and then start it. The o-rings in the carbs just need some time to swell up.

check for rust in the fuel tank. one common cause of a leaky float valve is rust flakes in the needle seating area, and small bits DO go right through the filter. another thing you can try is blowing compressed air into the fuel line to carbs.

No rust in my tank. I rode a good 60 miles and got horrible gas mileage in the process. My oil is smelling mighty gassy, too. I was going to try the compressed air trick, as I don't quite have a garage of my own to go tearing into carbs.

Has anyone seen a fuel injection kit for these bikes?
