Yeah, could be nasty shin-bangers. Or do you mean in an accident?

no cut sliders usually dont offer great protection. its not uncommon for the brackes to bend, and offer minimal to no protection for the frame.

on the plus side you don't need to cut the plastic, big plus for some
but with them on the end of that long rod, I would be leery. 1) they look weird, to me at last 2) looks like they would get in your way and you would bang your shins on them; but don't know for sure without trying them 3) but mostly the further out from the body they are, the more likely the rod is to bend, and they are fairly far out there. Probly/maybe wouldn't matter in a simple 0MPH tip over, but in an accident with a slide involved, I see that rod bending and you bike on the ground.
Who knows though, I have been wrong before and I will be wrong again I am sure...

ok, looking at the link, those are useless, aside from beating ones shins to death.

they have to be farther FORWARD to be of any real use. where they'e at, they wont really do very much of anything at all. just a look pretty and make you shout profanities repeatedy when you smack em with a shin thing. actually, in a crash, or hard braking event, you may even injure yourself on those easily.

These look like a pivot point to slam the front of the bike into the ground instead of protecting it. I would pass on these and just get the one's that cut the plastics. they seem to be mounted in a better area to protect the bike. There was another thread where sliders like this were discussed and these same negatives came up in that thread too (shin bruisers and lack of protection).

02 I'm sorry (spoken like dave chapelle talking to sampson in half baked)

:deadhorse: yes, these probably suck. No cut, cheap=too good to be true. I like the Oggys in the previous link. Wish you got a better look at the brackets though to see how beefy they are, to protect the radiators.

Yeah Mountains as a matter of fact I have. I've got me a set of the LighTech no-cut magnesium frame sliders for my '03 VFR800 because you know I AM big into pain and smacking my shins on things that stick out from the sides of my bike. :spit:

The LighTech no-cut frame sliders are a five piece design with a rubber shock absorber that bolt through the frame and into the rear of the engine case. The mount bolt is a 10mm diameter steel bolt.
Absolutely couldn't be easier to install either, you simply unbolt the lower rear motor mount bolt and bolt in the frame slider. That's it. Big Bubbles No Troubles!
Although the slider pucks are made of magnesium, sadly though, they're made of non-sparking magnesium Which kinda sucks because I believe magnesium makes a bluish green spark when you grind it.
Prolly woulda looked pretty cool grinding along the pavement. Hey if you gotta crash you might as well do it in style right?

I also have a set of the R&G frame sliders for my bike. The R&G's require that you cut holes in the fairing panels to mount them, and install a modified coolant overflow bottle that's supposed to come with them. Which I can tell you is a curious thing because the set of R&G frame sliders that I bought did NOT come with that coolant overflow bottle. WTF?
The R&G's use a 12mm diameter steel rod that extends completely through the rear of the engine case and the plastic slider pucks are secured on either side with a nylock nut and a washer.

    [IMG] [IMG]

Now as to whether or not the LighTech frame sliders will stick out so far away from the frame that you'll be catching a leg on them every time you pass by,well I can't say for sure gentlemen but here's an interesting side-by-side comparison pic which shows the overall lengths of the two frame sliders. R&G on the left,LighTech on the right.

Hmmmm............... I dunno gentlemen, you make the call.

 Sigh, two threads at once on the same subject, a pain to follow and easy to miss in a search. To recap: I own these and like them. The shin thing is no big deal to me, but I'm sure they will make some folks  . I still think those pucks are plastic!
Can someone (like the OP) please pick a single thread to continue ??? I vote for this one since it has nice pictures :thumb:

Geek, I agree, I replied to the other thread with the link to the LighTechs and thought they could use their own thread (not knowing they already had one apparently)

So Stosh, which would you recommend?

Well that settles it, if Stosh keeps posting pics like that I will definitely keep following this thread
AHEM, to get back to the subject at hand. In the interest of science I just took a pocket knife to my LighTech slider puck. I stand corrected - there is metal underneath the plasticy coating. I guess they really may be magnesium after all - they were so light I thought it was just a dense plastic. The more I think about it, the more I like the idea of 2 sets of sliders, in my imagination I can see the bike sliding along on them and sustaining rather less damage that with either set alone.

Wait, Geek, so you're going to put both pairs on at once?

And Stosh you have set some pretty high expectations, but I'll see if I can meet them...
I couldn't decide so I just dumped them all in here at once....OVERLOAD
