The short answer is Yes. The bike is already lean from the factory, losing the baffles and cat will make it VERY lean. Exhaust mods = power commander.

Don't worry about it, the beauty of FI is that it is self adjusting and adapts. It may not be perfect but it's practical enough

I have no problems with my bike, thousands of miles with a semi-gutted exhaust. Many VFR riders with similar results.

In comparison to stock gutted pipes, aftermarket exhausts are basically the same but are designed to look cool, have a certain exhaust tone, light weight, offer some performance gains (if any), all with no FI mapping changes needed.

    It's your choice:
    1. gut the cans and leave the FI mapping alone, cost you only time and $$ for DIY tools.
    2. gut the cans, $250+ PCIII, $250+ for dyno tuning, all that and no significant HP or torque gains.

    The hard part is choosing.
But your engine will not self destruct.

How do you "gut the stock cans"? I've been looking for threads on removing the baffles but can't find any.

Try a Google search - something like "gut VFR exhaust". I tried it and saw a number of hits on forums - one pic heavy.
