So, after much dithering, I've bought a gorgeous 09 VFR and it's great.

It came with a full set of OEM luggage, which is great. The luggage came with an eye-watering array of random nuts and bolts and I'm buggered if I know what is for what. The luggage is panniers and a top box. The top box rack is assembled.

The luggage is off the bike (the hand hold covers are on, so that I could get all the various nuts and bolts together and work out what whould go where, which is when I need your help.

I'd love to know what you think the following bits and bobs are for. Even better, if you have a link to some scanned instructions, that would meke me very happy. There are prises available (sort of - thanks available!). Enjoy the quiz:

There is only one of these (showing a couple of angles here):

These seem a bit random, so I'm inclined to think that they are not part of the kit:

Thanks for looking through those - I really hope you can help!

    Have Fun!

Yeah.... instructions are gonna tell you which bolt goes where. Have FUN installing the side racks though. I just did it a few weeks ago on my 08. It took me several hours. If the fitment was good it's maybe a 45 min job. I still can't even get one bolt in. The 4 smallest bolts that go back by the license plate for the cross brace..... I can only get 3 of the 4, but it's more than strong enough. The instructions blow! I've tried ever way to get it all together..... top bolts on 1st.... peg bolts on 1st...... rear on 1st.... I don't know how it wound up going on but I know what worked for one side did not work for the other. The worst fitment I've ever seen in an accessory..... but it is rock solid once it is on. I hope your install goes much smoother.

I'm glad it's not just me! Yesterday's project was to take off the luggage and racks, then pop them back on just to see how it all worked. In summary it didn't. The fit of the side racks was amazingly bad. So bad the I wondered for a while if they were a cheap Chinese knock off.

The secret seemed to be to do the top bolts (assuming I had the right bolts?) loosely, then the rears loosely then the pegs. Tightening it all up felt like I was forcing it, because the fit was so bad. I plan to have a go at adjusting the angles of the side racks to get a better fit. I need to make sure I have the bolts on the right places first.

If anyone has any pictures of the racks installed, that would really help.

At the moment the racks feel like one of those nearly impossible puzzles that only comes out at Christmas!

Yeah, the OEM bag system is definately overly complex, really weird for Honda. So much more involved than the bag systems I have had on my BMWs, or FJR1300, or even the Givi system I used on my old VFR. Well, at least it is expensive...

I wouldn't go messing with the angles. You'll make the bags not sit right if you start bending metal. The instructions show exactly which bolts go where so if you've got a few threads on each of them then I say tighten away. The top... rear... then pegs worked for me on the right side.... but the left side was just impossible, but finally got it minus one of the rear bolts. I remember the fender being a complex sandwich and the illustration was just horrible.... but it seems almomst logical once it goes on properly. Im happy with them..... but I would never ever remove these racks again. Not worthe the headache! Not sure what showing the racks will help you with... but if you still need it, I'd be happy to snap some pics for ya.

Thanks for that Gorby. Yep, I need to make sure that the racks still sit right.

Thanks for posting the photos. If you do get a chance to take some pictures of which bolts are in which holes and whether there are any caps on any of them, that would really help. Perhaps you could blame me when you say you need to go out for a ride today?

    Thanks again for your help.

The bike looks great, by the way. The double bubble screen really suits the colour and the luggage.

Here some pics..... Hope it helps. Notice I still have one bolt missing near the license plate. Can't get it threaded at all... but it doesn't really matter.

And just because I wish they had some kind of quick release rack because the bike looks the best this way with no racks or passenger pegs.
