Hey guys, i know ive been here a while, but i never actually introduced myself or my bike so i figured this would be a good time to do so while im gimped up from falling off of it.........

I was raised on dirt bikes but my first street bike was an NSR250r which i had for a little under a year while i was stationed in japan in the late 80's.

I traded that NSR for my 2nd bike, a mid 80's VFR400. I absolutely fell in love with those bikes and honda in general at that time. The 400 that i had didnt originally have a Proarm on it, it was 1 year later that they started it. A japanese friend of mine had a newer "Rothmans" edition 400 that he had wrecked. He gave the bike to me and i gave a local bike shop 2 flats of budweiser to transfer the swingarm and a few other things to mine.

After about a year, I ended up selling the bike to buy a Nissan Skyline and thats what i drove until i was transferred back to the states in late 89.

Fast forward to several years ago when gas prices really started going up and i decided to get a bike again to save gas. I picked up a CBR6000F3 and rode it for 1 season before i started looking for a Gen4 VFR. I found a good candidate so i put the cbr up for sale. Wouldnt you know it that by the time i sold the F3, the VFR i wanted was sold. (i think i missed it by 1 day)

I continued to look for a Gen4 through that summer and after about 6 months i came across a Beautiful 98 Gen5 that had just been listed on autotrader. I fell in love once again and bought it. It was a few years ago and i dont remember what i paid, it was either 4000 or 4400. It already had a Wolf Exhaust, Sargent Seat, Race Tech Gold, Penske Rear, and a tinted windscreen. This is what it looked like at the time i bought it.........

This past winter i had the bike in pieces and did a lot of maintenance, (chain, sprockets, oil, filter, brake pads, etc) and did some extra stuff like........

    - y2k mirrors
    - carbon levers
    - Throttlemeister
    - New grips
    - Ceramic coated exhaust
    - Painted the wheels
    - Rebuilt the penske shock
    - Battery Tender hardwired

(I think there are a few other items i cant think of right now, i ended up putting $1200 into it over the winter)

I finally finished everything up a few weeks ago and took the bike out for a photoshoot........

I then proceeded to trailer it back up and go meet a friend for the virgin 2011 ride. I got to the location and unloaded the bike. 50 feet later i gave it a little too much throttle turning out of the parking lot on a new tire and the rear end came out from under me.

I put my foot down to catch myself (like you would do on a dirt bike) and ended up doing the 'splits' and fractured my pelvis. This fall also fractured my bike.........

Damage to the Mirror, Both brake levers, footpeg broke off, tail cowl and seat cover, throttlemeister, turn signal, lower cowl, and engine cover.....

Ive ordered all new parts and they are either here, or on the way. I cant wait to get it back to pristine condition and ride it again. Today is the first day that im able to move around without crutches. Im hoping to be fully healed in the next week or two.

Id like to thank VFRW for all the help ive recieved since i joined. You're some of the best "forum people" ive come across in my travels.

Id also like to thank the previous owner of this bike for taking such good care of it and im sorry i fell off of it and put it in the hospital. Ive done my best to keep the bike in the condition i got it, and will continue to do so as long as i own it.

    I LOVE this bike

I've never seen an under the seat exhaust on a 5th Gen before. I like it. The bike looks pretty cherry too. I am an ex-5th Gen owner and absolutely loved the bike. It is near flawless. Sorry to hear about your mishap. At least you're going to have a full recovery. The damage to the bike doesn't look too bad either. Make sure to show us the after photos. So I guess this is your official welcome!

    Thanks guys.

Yeah, the damage isnt all that bad, but it still came to $2300 on the insurance claim.

I ordered the following parts brand new but im going to keep them in theyre packaging unless i put the bike in a show, or sell it....

    -rear seat cover
    -front cowl
    -engine cover
    -mirror
    -turn sig

Ill just keep the damaged stuff on the bike, and i found a decent condition engine cover and seat cover that i can use

I ended up getting everything for right around $1000

Your bike is in too nice of shape to NOT replace the damaged parts. Leaving them in the box might only be a good long term plan for selling them some day, but why not keep your bike looking as good as it can? That's just my thoughts. By the way, I like your custom plate.

Yeah im kinda torn as far as that goes. On one hand i like having a bike that is in that good condition, but on the other hand, if my insurance rates go up im going to have to take off the full coverage and live with liability. I would hate to have to replace this stuff out of my own pocket. decisions decisions........

If this happens again and you have to foot the bill, then deal with it then. For now, you've got the ability to put your bike back in the shape it was. I guess it boils down to whether you can live with it being less than it was. Sleep on it and let us know what you decide.

I decided for now to keep some of the new stuff new. It doesnt look too bad really, and if it starts bothering me at some point i can always switch it out.

Went for a ride last weekend too, so im feeling a lot better. Still not 100% but i might never be, only time will tell
