    ALOHA FROM HAWAII,
I ran across this sight looking for info to fix up my 1998 VFR800. I feel that you will be a great help to me and I'll try not to ask to many stupid questions. My VFR has been sitting in the corner of my garage since I deployed to Iraq in 2004. It was immaculate (looks & operation) until about a month before I deployed where I was taken off at 15mph when a Rental SUV turned on top of me. Only damage was my feelings (& almost their face), a cracked headlight, a cracked front fender, and some body plastic scratches. There was NO mechanical damage. I'd like to find where I can get all new plastic (China?), and the new headlight inexpensively since I only get military disability (VA) now and it doesn't go very far. I'd also like any advice about what I need to do or check on a bike that hasn't run in about 7 years. Thank you in advance and sorry this is so long!!

keep your chip up ...I have been dealing with the VA since 95-96 it gets "better" sort of.....LOL.... good luck on getting her all fixed up..... oh one more thing...:worthless:

there are quite a few ex military and current military folks here on VFRW...

    welcome to our world.....now yours....

Crustyrider, Thank you for the welcome to this site... and the support. The VA in Honolulu (Oahu) isn't treating me too badly overall... but the Kona clinic (where I live) is pretty much a joke. I almost had my surgery cancelled because the Kona clinic didn't submit the request for my plane flight until 3 days (over New Years) before a mandatory appointment with my surgeon (They knew about it over a month prior). With all my injuries... the VA giving me 100% wasn't even debated (if you add up all my injury "scores", it comes to something like 265%). I'll be posting more questions on the (hopefully) proper venue. Thanks again. Sandman

I hate how you can survive out in battle because and when you come back, you nearly get killed by an ignorant person. Thank you for your service!

Welcome to the world of VFR. Was that rental being driven by some pasty white person who said "eh"?

I hope your VA treats you as well as our Dept Veteran Affairs treats me. I cannot say enough good things about ours. I had a very short little, I won't even call it a battle, when I first applied for Dissability. They have been marvelous ever since. They have never said no to me so long ans my request has been reasonable. Actualy they did once. I told them I did not need travel expenses for a short medical trip and they said "No' You automatically get it. They can be a stubborn bunch. Won't let you decline money.

Been to Hawaii twice now. Wonderful home you have there. 'Cept all those fucking chickens running everywhere over on Kauai

Actually, just to clarify things, the only damage from the accident was a cracked headlight, cracked front fender, and some scratches on my plastic body parts (and me getting very upset). My injuries were from a patrol in Iraq.

It was a woman that apparently didn't even see/hear my bright red VFR (clear, sunny day) or my 6'2" body riding it. My VA here is nothing like yours it seems... I can't hardly say anything good about it! I'm lucky if I get my needed plane tickets to Tripler for appointments there, much less any travel expenses for food or transportation while there. My primary "doctor" (and the only physical "doctor" in Kona's VA Clinic) is only a Nurse-Practitioner that's new to the VA and is totally lost. The biggest problem though is that, with the exception of three personnel (1 security, 1 receptionist, & 1 psych Dr), nobody here cares... they're just here for the paycheck. It's sad really!!

Wild chickens are only a problem on Kauai... no mongoose there to eat the eggs.

    For what it is worth.

My involvement with VA is due to my service with our national police force which is sort of para military and a distant branch of our armed forces so to speak. But in my 25 years with them, I never knowingly wrote a ticket to any member of our Armed Forces. If I knowingly came across one of you, the same would hold true. You may have gotten a bit of a tongue lashing. I mean I had to do something. Some people just get certain privileges from me and I do not apologize for that
