    Hey guys ,

I'm new here and need some help!
I'm currently riding a BMW R1200r and wanted a second bike!
I've heard great things about the viffers!
Should I be looking for a 5th gen or 6th gen?
What are the big differences between them?

    Thanks Johnnydee

Well, the 6th gen has the V-Tec which some hate and others don't mind. It has Cam chains and the styling is better IMO.

The 5th gen has the gear driven cams that sound great, looks are a little dated.

I think the 6th gen handles two-up riding a little better but I may be wrong. I've rode both and owned a 6th gen. I'm in the same boat as you. I plan on buying either a 5th gen or 6th gen this fall and I'm up in the air as to which I want. It'll probably come down to price since you can find good condition 5th gens for less than $3K

If price isn't an issue than go with whatever you like the looks of more. Honestly, you can't go wrong either way.

Why don't you start by telling us what you are looking for in a bike and what type of riding you do most.

I'm not totally sure here but I think that there are a few more color options for the 6th gen from the factory. if that matters at all...

I am pretty sure the size and weight are very similar. I get the feeling that there are many more 6th gens out there...in terms of parts availability long term...

    good luck!

I've heard bad things about the Vtec and becaues it'll be a second bike i'm really leaning to the 5th gen if I can get a good one for $3000 or less!
Unless I've made a mistake with my bummer and should just get a newer viffer and sell the bimmer!
I only tend to cruise no 2 up my wife doesn't trust me!
I do enjoy spirited riding whenever I can find some twisties!
CAn anyone compare the VFR to a BMW that I'm used to?
    Thanks
