ok when i first bought the bike i did the unthinkable not knowing any better i put reg. car oil in it well before i even got the bike started my buddy told me what i had done so i drained it all back out and put motorcycle oil back in it. once i got it running the clutchs started to slip but only when i got into higher gears and when it would warm up the bike would go no where i could sit w the clutch lever out in gear and bike would not move or stall. so i figured there may be some residual car oil in between clutch disks so i removed the clutch basket inspected my friction disks tyhey seemed to to have good pad life left on them so i just cleaned em up w brake clean spread motorcycle oil back on them and put it all back together. now i did not know the torque specs for the clutch basket holddown nut (does any one on here know). so i just went tight but not to tight w the nut as its aluminum nd didnt want to strip it out. well i was right in my asumption that cleaning the disks off would fix my problem but only part right it works great no slipping no problems through all gears at all rpms. only problem is when i really get into it the clutchs slip past half throttle so bad that when i smack it while riding its almost like it jumped into neutral. i thought maybe this could be because that nut is not torqaued down properly.

It's probably the zinc (and other) additives from the car oil impregnated into your fibers. That means you are pretty much hosed. - the parts will need replaced. Sorry!

This reminds me of a story of an old friend of mine who didn't think it was important to fix a leaking brake line....

    Hi
I used normal car oil in my 1990 VFR 750FL,Castrol GTX or Duckhams multigrade for 140,000 miles with no problem. Clutch plates or springs might need replacement as you don't know it didn't slip when you bought it.
