Can some one tell me how long the side stand on their '86 miniceptor is? im worried the one that came with my bike isnt the correct one, as it leans over very far when i park it. im not sure if it was replaced with a shorter one at some point, or if 25years has taken its toll.

My 500 was the same way when I bought it, leaned waaay too far over on the side stand. Turned out the side stand pivot bolt was slightly loose, hope your solution is that simple.

ill check on that, i think it may just be the wrong part. the bike was over a few times by previous owners and i'm sure some stuff broke off and was replaced. it just bothers me because if i happen to park on a hill that is on that side i have to really throw my weight at the bike to get it up right again when im ready to go.

If I'm not mistaken P/N of side stand is the same for all years.
My experience with 2 stands of '85 is that they do bend in time and the only solution I have found is to straighten them back. Also tried hardening one, though not sure if it has been done properly, but bended again.
You can also check the frame tab where the stand attaches if it is also bended.

I assume you have excluded bike height change as a result of tires, shock etc modification.

+1, they seem to always bend. They were definitely under-engineered, unfortunately. On my last 500 I always had a small piece of 1 x 4 handy at home to lessen the strain on the stand.
