Got my VFR 800 yesterday, 2007 in Candy Dark Red. I am a Ducati refugee, having suffered for 12 years at the hands of a 900SS, but healing rapidly on the Honda - WOW, what a lovely motorcycle. I am a big fan of Forums, great place to lurk and learn. Greetings to all!

Congratulations and welcome. We also need some bike details. Did you get it as a leftover? If not - miles, updates, etc.

+1 on the reliability, my old Duc was constantly breaking in odd but annoying ways, at the time I traded it in the starter gear had begun to slip, and the carburetion that I had carefully tweaked over the years had begun to sound rich at part throttle, I suspect the needle jets had become worn. This is particularly bad as the carbs on the Duc were buried deep, it was a 3-4 hour job to make any changes. Oh well, time to let the memory fade.
I will post some pics when the sun comes back - we have thunder storms in Atlanta right now. Even then, photography does not do justice to this paint, it's a very deep rich red; it's funny how crazy I am about the color, I am usually pretty indifferent. When I saw this VFR pop up on CycleTrader last Saturday I was immediately smitten, and in person it was even better. It is used, but only 3600 miles and the paint is in great shape; I bought it from WOW which is a large used bike shop - they had 5 VFR's on the floor when I went in Tuesday. So far the only mechanical worry has been some rust spots on the chain, this may mean that lubing was neglected. This weekend I will pull the covers off of the countershaft sprocket and see how the teeth look; in my experience this is a good indicator of how much the chain has stretched. The bike looks to be box stock, very few tool marks. Judging from the inch and a half chicken strips and the immaculate feelers on the footpegs the bike has not been ridden hard, but I am working to change that  .
On the oil - I have a big jug of Mobil 1 sitting in my garage, I will probably replace the coolant at the same time as I don't know if this has ever been done.
So far my only concenrs have been the bars and the windscreen. The bars droop at the end, and I prefer mine somewhat flatter; I will ride it for a while and see if I adjust. The windscreen is fine at legal speeds, but at 110 mph I felt a lot of upward pressure on my helmet. I expect I will change this, the "Double Bubble" looks like a good candidate, but I am open to suggestions.
Sorry about the long winded reply, but the response to my first post was splendid: you guys make me feel welcome. It may be a while before I can contribute much, but rest assured I will be lurking!

Congrats! I think that upward pressure on your helmet is from the huge grin.

I have the GIVI screen for my 5th gen, it provides excellent high speed protection. A member on here just did a write up the other day of the GIVI screen on the 6th gen, look it up.

Welcome from John's Creek. We have quite a few members from around Atlanta and North GA. Check out the link below for info on our upcoming Spring Get2Gether in NC on April 27-29th. The Kickstand Lodge is awesome! This is sure to be a good time with plenty of lies and cold beer around the campfire!!

Ah, howdy neighbor. I am actually in Hickory Flat over in Cherokee county, I just put Atlanta as a generic address. I pass by your area on the way to work in Norcross all the time. It's great to find such an active, friendly forum. See you in traffic!
