So it is getting warmer up here in good ole Canada and I decided it was time to pull the VFR outta the shed and get her ready for the 2011 riding season. As I started coaxing the bike out of the shed I noticed that it was really hard to roll. I was like, WTF is going on here, this thing gained two hundred pounds over the winter just like me! Then I noticed the flat rear tire. Awe shit, there goes another 300 clams, but it got better! I get the bike up to the garage and slide in the battery only to find that it was completely toast even after being stored in a warm basement. So now we are at 400 clams conservatively. I was running outta clams pretty quick and they don't come cheap here, just like everything else. So I procure a nice new battery, find and fix the pinhole in my rear tire and I'm ready to roll right? Well perhaps not as I decided to check the air filter first. My spidy senses were tingling so I pulled the tank back and removed the airbox to find a huge motha of a mouse nest. This thing covered half the air filter. Thankfully there were no rodents in there as well as no piss or excrement, but man that was a big nest. I took pictures but was later disappointed to find that the camera failed to save them for some reason. I blame my daughter for messing with the settings but truthfully it was probably something I did wrong.

So there it is, show me your biggest and baddest mouse nest!!!

It has been my experience that the mice build in the air box of carbureted bikes and in the valley (chewing on wiring as they go) on fuel injected bikes. Count you blessings it worked oot like it did.

When I was restoring my VF1000R a couple of years ago, I too found a huge nest in the airbox. It was only after I ripped it out that I wished I had taken some pictures of it. Now that it spends it's life in a heated basement, I won't have to worry about that any more.

Nope. Don't have that problem. I burn any of dem lil buggers out beofre they get established. Did have them once in teh camper trailer though. Chewed the shit out of all the linnens and turds everywhere. When I opened the drawer, there the two of them were. Nicely snuggled together. That is how they remained for the rest of their lives.

You wouldn't think, but that is true. My brother has a Yamaha TT350 and a couple of years ago, he couldn't get it started. After checking all the obvious things, we started to tear it down. Once we pulled the header pipe from the cylinder, out came seeds and straw and all kinds of junk. They had wiggled their way through the exhaust and header, right up to the cylinder.

I bought my first (5th gen) in Pittsburg and when I got it home I discovered a lovely nest built in between the cylinders. They has set up house and munched away on the wires for the side stand and the neutral safety switch. Had to pull the throttle bodies off to clean up the mess and fix the harness. The bike has sat in a garage under a cover for a while so thay had plenty of time to get established I guess.

how about other nests? When I moved into my current house, several raccoons had made a home in the attic. While remodeling, we trapped and removed 15 - 20 of the big bastards. One that was trapped was apparently forgotten about up there for way too long after he had decided to chew on some electrical wires. Let's just say what was left of him was not pretty looking, or smelling. The others had at least been trapped outside. Some may have had a bath that was too deep for them to swim in their cage. He got left out in the rain. in a hole. Oops.

Not the same competition, but a nest none the less.

I salute your nest based on the difficulty of extraction and invite further submissions.

We get a few racoons about once in a while but the coyotes pretty much keep em away. They also keep my cats inside at night!

DSC_3049 (Large).jpg Well I did take a picture of my little buddies. They really did not do any damage and I think they were just trying to live life and enjoy their new found VFR and enjoy it during the off season. And I didn't kill them. I simply trapped them and sent them to BC via the Postal Service.
They had a little nest to sleep and I assume enjoy their normal living habits. (shown in the pic) They also had a nest under the seat where they performed their ablutions. This one was really rank and the one I found first. I didn't take any pictures of this one. Just assume it was fecal friendly, to which some subscribers can easily relate. I almost hate to reply and certainly don't want to enter any sort of competition. But $hit is $hit. Just my two turds worth.

That is a lot of mouse turds & piss. Hope that you got it all out, and it didn't do damage elsewhere.

    I have a chopper with VF1000R engine.
My wife and I had mouse troubles.
They were not in the bike though.
We bought a large bag of cherries and put them in a bowl on the kitchen cabinet.
My wife and I started to blame each other for eating too many cherries too fast.
Then we saw the mouse turds.
We investigated further and found one of the kitchen cabinets full of cherry pits and mouse turds. My wife said she thought I was eating all the cherries.

We cover all the food now and used mouse traps and got rid of the mice.
We still cannot find out how they got in the house.
We have looked everywhere for a hole. We think they may have run in the door when the door was open.

Those vermin can get in through almost anything. Your average size field mouse, say at 2 to 3 inches, can probably squeeze through a hole the size of a nickel, maybe even smaller. Garage doors, plumbing entering the house, screen doors that don't seal perfectly, etc. Keep the traps baited an put them everywhere.

I've had my share of mouse nests in the air filter box, but none this year. I also surround my bike with traps, so any mouse would have to run the gauntlet to get to it.

I was working on my bike it was slower that I remember it. Found the air box completely full with a mouse next. I have only had the bike a month and initially blamed the prior owners garage. As I looked at the nest I found that there was a lot of carbon fiber scraps in it, my garage. Only saw one immature baby. I fed him to my dog.

When I reassembled it I took some heavy screening, about a 1/4" grid and made a grill for my snorkel. Fortunately I found a K&N filter in it. They had not been able to chew through it. I always find that my garage is not mine. It belongs to nature.

As far as coons, skunks and opossums, I shoot every one possible. They ruin all that they touch.
