    Hi Guys,
Got an 03' and when I crack the throttle (say to 2500 rpm) I consistently get a single muffled Pop noise from what appears to be coming from under the front cowl. Does it every time I crack the throttle. Not very loud and no performance issues, but it just sound weird and out of place, almost like fingers snapping. Anybody else run into this or have a clue what it might be? I don't know if I just hadn't noticed it, it just recently started or it's completely normal for this machine. Any clue would be welcome. Thanks for any comments

Most likely your Airbox flapper, perfectly normal.

Thanks John, I'll bet that's just what that is. Puts my obsessive mind to rest. Really appreciate you taking your time to answer.

If you really want to narrow this down to that and add some more piece of mind then you can lift the tank, temporarily secure the flapper open, and go for a ride. If it doesn't do it anymore, you know for certain that is it.

I never once heard mine before I removed it but then again my hearing isn't exactly the greatest.

    Grateful thanks from a bike-o-chondriac

Not trying to revive a thread just for the sake of posting, but to extend my sincere appreciation to Gottaride for already asking this question, and John451 and Meatloaf for answering it. :hail:

I just noticed the same sort of sound when riding my '02 home from the office last week. It took me a while at home to be able to recreate it, but it seemed to occur only after the bike was warmed up and then consistently between 1500-1700 rpm (indicated). Like Gottaride said, it doesn't seem to affect the engine's operation, but since I couldn't find anything obvious on it in the manual, I was on the fence whether to note and ignore it or to investigate further. I was bracing myself for tracking down manifold leaks and all sorts of other nightmare scenarios, but now I can come down off the walls I'd been climbing. (I'm a bit of a bike-o-chondriac, but I'm trying to get into therapy for it.)

hey, Just bought a 2008 last week and hear this sound at very slow speeds when just opening up the throttle to start moving faster. I may just try removing the tank and blocking said flapper to be sure. Wierd sound for sure and not there 100% of the time either.

Oddly enough the pop sound was much more prevalent on my previous Gen 6 '03 than my current '99 Gen 5. When I originally bought the Gen 6 new the POP started off quiet barely noticable from new but got louder later, I dug up my original "POP" question from May '04 ( from OzVFR.net site ) was told by most respondents it was perfectly normal on a VTech at the time.

    My '04 Thread Starter:

" VTec VFR - Pop sound just off idle ?
I have just noticed a Faint Pop sound, started last Thursday when caught in the Rain in traffic. I have not noticed the sound previously at all and now have 5000k's. Studying it today in traffic today have noted the following:

    1) when the engine is still cold the pop sound is not evident at all.
    2) when engine is warmed up it happens immediately off idle when slowly disengaging clutch in first to go.
    3) Most interesting is that it also makes the small Pop sound in Neutral when stationary with a warm engine...again immediatle on throttle and again immediatly off throttle.
    4) In both cases somewhere around 1500-1600 RPMs. Is there something that happens immediately on throttle...I mean within a fraction of an inch, like the closing off an idle circuit ?

Has anyone else expirienced this noise and has it been fixed or lived with ? In case there are other Pop types should mention the sound is not very loud and seems just under the Tank, also have not performed any mods. Otherwise the VFR's Performance is faultless.

Was Given below answer off VFRDiscussion

"The Pop noise is a subject on VFR Discussion - Home, some put it down to the Flapper, but one other explanation from " Bikoman " is the intake duct solenoid, either way seems common and not a worry. URL http://www.vfrdiscussion.com/scgi-bin/ikonboard.cgi?;a ct=ST;f=2;t=6217;st=20 "

Raised it with the Honda Mechanic at servicing: ( June '04 )
Had the 6000k service yesterday, told the Honda mechanics of the Pop sound, had them hear it while Motor was still at operating temp around 90C, the pop is very quiet when the engine is cool, much noisier when warm. On bike pickup they said sound was from rubber gromets on the Flapper and it was fixed now...They also said all/most late VFR's do it. The Pop came right back as soon as the motor got back to operating Temp, so obviously wasn't fixed. Either way ignored it as it didn't seem to actually affect anything "
