    and I liked it.

Haven't pushed the bike too hard since I bought it, but taking a fun ride this evening I found myself on a empty on-ramp and not much traffic on the highway, so punched it a bit. Felt the surge when hit 6800 and heard the engine note deepen, and it took off. Found myself in 3rd at 85 with a rapidly-shortening ramp and enough traffic that I had to slow down to merge in(the pack came along just then).

The transition was smooth, not at all jarring or startling. I think felt a bit of vibration, but that could very well have been the ramp surface at that speed.

The more I ride this thing, the more I like it. I need to find a track.

That has been my experience as well. VTEC engagement has never caused a stability issue for me even when kicking in mid-turn. I'm glad you like the bike. For me, it is the perfect amount of power.

The VTEC system certainly has been maligned, but I really have never found it to be much of a big deal. The only thing I notice about the transition is the noise and the increased acceleration - it's never felt jerky or unstable. The transition back down, somewhere around 6,300 I think, isn't even noticeable. I tend to think of VTEC as a low-RPM "stealth mode" for keeping the neighbors happy and the gas consumption down when out on the highway.

Given enough time you do not notice it, just come to expect it and enjoy it.

Have to admit, I've never ridden a VTEC VFR; but have driven cages with the same technology, and ridden plenty of tuned two-stroke bikes. I can imagine it is less exciting than a highly-tuned two stroke coming 'on the pipe'. THAT can be downright terrifying if it happens mid-corner.:eek::eek:

vtec question. it seems like a lot of guys are at the vtec mark quite often. will you ride for extended periods while the bikes rpm's are up there? ill usually get up to where i want then shift up some. or are you all talking about high speed high way driving?

    1st gear vtec scare

The other night I had a little moment where the vtec caught me off guard. Coming out of my development in 1st gear I nailed it. Right after, there is this little crest down into a little dip in the road. The planets must have been alligned because right before I came over the crest.... the vtec blasts in and the bike stood almost straight up and really caught me off guard.

On my '07, I believe the VTEC kicks in around 6400 RPM. At highway speeds at 75 MPH, the RPMs are not that high and therefore, I have never had it kick in. Also, my bike is geared down a little where I went +2 on the rear sprocket. I have found that it is tough to have the VTEC engaged for an extended period of time because you either run out of road or come up on traffic. During my daily 60 mile commute, I can rarely get the bike in the VTEC range.

Nothing hits like a 2-stroke. I miss the days of 2-stroke MX bikes .........

I hit vtec on the highway only when passing or an enterance ramp. Crusing the slab is at about 5500rpm.

On the way back from Texas to Iowa, however, this one cage passed me like I wasn't moving. I followed him north on I-35 (so he could block radar) for about a half hour south of Wichita KS at about 110mph... I believe I was in Vtec that whole time. The interstate is MUCH more interesting at 100+.

I'm only in that range occasionally, when I really have to get speed up NOW or, in this case, just felt like it. From what I'm told it'll run just fine in VTEC for long periods, just drinks a bit more fuel.

While back was caught in some bad traffic on I40 and wanted out, so rolled on some throttle; I was in sixth and when backed off was at 90mph and only about 6000 rpm. At highway speeds you only get into the mode when either accelerating hard or going WAY up there in speed. And I've never been in a place yet with scarce enough traffic to do that with reasonable safety.

I read that in either '05 or '06(I think) Honda changed the specs to bring VTEC on at a bit lower rpm; on mine it's still right about 6800.

in top gear my 04 vtech kicks when 102mph shows up on the tach.
I found it would cruise at that speed fairly easily as well :)
