I should have clarified - the guys will let you pump your own gas into your bike. I don't think I've ever had someone even TRY to fill my bike for me. But even with the portable gas cans for mowers and such, they all do it for you.

I'm sure that's right and part of the reasoning. I've also heard this, but have nothing to substantiate it (so maybe its not true): In many states, they offer full service in addition to the self service. Usually these prices are higher for the full service. (I mean, c'mon, you are having a guy really work his ass off to be a manual petroleum transporter, right)? But the point is, this was considered discrimination against the handicapped. Why should a guy who can't walk as easily as the rest of us be forced to pay more?

Like I said, don't know if its true, but an interesting perspective anyway.

Kind of figured that was the case in NJ. Here, they just hand you the hose. I have never seen or heard otherwise when riding. Some stations do charge a bit extra/gallon for full service. Some don't. Lots of folks who drive are unable to perform some of the simple tasks we take for granted.

I wonder if ol KC pumps his own gas at the base station or just goes there so he can beat up on some E1 or E2 who is trying to make a few bucks?

Here along the mississippi river, the Illinois side is usually about $0.10 - $0.20 higher - depends on which city you fill up in. There are a couple around that are still $3.65/gal for the E10/89 octane. 87 is about unheard of around here in the corn belt. I've had several of the $60 fill ups lately in the 4 wheeler. If the weather would straighten up, I could ride my bike more often.

and Diesel is up to $4.05

We should crank in the BS factor too. Here in the great state of Ogeron, gas prices are much higher on the coast than inland to screw the tourists as well as the locals. The spokes BSers come on with the story that the increased cost is because of delivery and transportation.

The usual difference is about 40 miles inland and about a dime a gallon higher here on the coast.

Somebody put the calculator to the story and figured out it was BS.

The irony is that the local WalMart is expanding from one of the smallest stores in the chain to a SuperWally's and will probably have a Wallystation. I expect long gas lines real soon at Wally's and nowhere else here and a whole bunch of BS about Wallygas making the lower ends of all known cars and bikes to fall out, skid down the road and kill poor blind children in the crosswalk they use to get to foodstamps and warm clothing.

Keager: Thanks for bringing the thread back on topic instead of trying to thread-jack it by insulting other people's posts. KC-10: That's an interesting observation. I didn't know there were still places that pump your gas for you. We haven't seen "Full Service" gas stations in California since the early 80's.
That same gas station i posted just 2 days ago has gone up again! that's a $0.20 difference in just 1 week!

gas went up here too....its hovering right around $4.40 a gallon for the low stuff.....I should go check the one station that is traditionaly .20 higher than everybody else Wonder if they cracked the $5.00 mark yet...funny part about that station, if people drove maybe 1 1/2 they wouldn't have to pay so much....BTW thi sstation is usually frequented by the college kids that have Mom and dads credit card...

$4.25 a gallon here in east of Sacramento, CA for the low grade. I saw $4.50/gal for the premium. We'll be over $5 soon and I'd bet close to $6 in the summer silly season. We get most of our imported gas from Canada, I can't believe we haven't started bombing and invading yet. I'd give it another year or so!

New Jersey, where the state legislature decided in 1949 that “because of the fire hazards directly associated with dispensing fuel, it is in the public interest that gasoline station operators have the control needed over that activity to ensure compliance with appropriate safety procedures.”

Measure was approved and passed by the Republican majority lead '49 NJ state assembly and senate. Damn Repubs!!

Somerset, NJ. Had to stop yesterday to fill up the cage, but this place was about 30¢ higher for premium than other places I saw today.

Hank.sd - I got one of those too. I get about the same, but worse when I'm towing the boat. Considering I get about 2.3mpg at WOT on the boat, 10mpg seems like a dream, lol.

Barley - I think I know that exact station, and they're always outrageous. Where I work, in Harding, its at least $.20 higher per gallon than any surrounding town.
