I took my 05 out for a spin after putting some new PR2's on. The bike has 22K. This was the first ride of the season. The tank still had 3/4 left. Over the winter the gas was treated with stabil and I had the wire harness recall done. During the recall the mechanic said the power comander was not working, but then started working again. The bike seemed to run fine on my ride. I took it out on the highway and opened it up a bit. I hit 100 mph for a second in forth gear which was exiting. I droped back down to the speed limit for about two miles then I started to loose power. I ended up pulling over and the motor slowly died. It felt like I was out of gas. I turned off the key and back on and tried starting it, it rolled over but wouldn't fire. I turned off the key again and back on and tried starting and it fired up. I then rode it home about 8 miles with no further problems. Upon investigating the air filter I found a lovely chipmunk condo covering about 90% of the air filter. It was discusting. I cleaned it (K&Nfilter),but have yet to take the bike out again. Could this have been my problem? What other things should I check?

No air = no combuston. The nest was your problem.

Ok, but why did it start back up and run for 8 miles?

the chipmunk or mouse had time to run out! I had a similar issue with another bike, the air box was jammed packed with a nest & ran just fine. Stranger things have happened.

one more thing, check your throttle slack, that will make you stall if there is too much.

I see this alot in my line of work, when pulling hard it will pull the material tightly together and it seals up. When you shut it off it relaxed and will let more air through. A once a week thing around here.

your power commander may be the culprit....is it possible it heated up and shut down? the chipmunk nest doesn't help but unless its water tight it will still allow air flow to let the bike run rough.... or really really rich...I say its your PC + chipmunk power
