How much do you think your '83 is worth? I assure you that it is not enough to make it worth selling. You should seriously reconsider. What are the specifics on it anyway? How many miles, what's the condition, what modifications have been done, etc. Maybe we can help you come up with a ball park value that you can take back to your wife to show her that it's not as much as she might think.

And yes, the '07 is light years better than the '83. As I said before, it is very hard for me to get back on any of my '86 machines after riding the '07.

Even tho she's mentioned it a couple of times, I try to change the subject. I normally don't to something just because she asks me to. I put it up on ebay for about 2 minutes the other day. It made me sad and I took it down because of the sentimental value it holds for me. It reminds me of better days when I was carefree and with no responsibility back then. Out of the 7 or so bikes I went thru between '82-'85, this one was the one I truly loved and later regretted getting rid of it when I got married. The '83 is pretty. Its plastic and tank are without blemmish. It holds a lot of history. As the years wear on and the bike turns 30, 35 and 40 years old, I will have a real treasure. I know there are some guys out there with nice '83s and a few are better than mine. But, mine is nearly as perfect as I have seen. It still turns heads. Thats whats so special about it. I feel like I have something hardly anyone else has and thats where its value is to me. I honestly dont think I could ever give it up.

Alex - when I put the saddlebags on, here is what I did - somewhat of an eliminator kit, but because of the saddlebags it just won't work. Got rid of the plastic crap, and still looks decent. At least I think so. I never look at the back of my bike, other people do.

I just intalled the fender eliminator kit. DAMN those tiny tag light nuts were a bugger to get on there! But worth all the extra time. Now I dont look like a wannabe anymore. I'm the real deal! LOL

I am a little late to the party, but congrats on the new bike.

Keep the old one. If it's as nice as you say it is and you sell it, you will spend a lot more fixing up another '83 when you realize your mistake.

If you show your wife that post you just wrote about the '83, and add in what measly amount you could possibly get for it, I think you'll have a good case to show her it's not worth selling.

...Anyone who owns a 1st gen that runs knows you have a lot more time and money into it than it will ever be worth...Don't sell ! Take her out a few times a year, you'll be happy you did. If my wife ever says "one has to go", it won't be an Interceptor !
