Hi everyone, I want to purchase a bike for me and my wife and the VFR 800 is the top choice right now, but I have a few questions.

I lived in quebec Canada, so for anyone who has riden here, the quality of the road are awefull, pothole, bump, suspenssion is important

Also if you want to recommand another bike than the VFR, keep in mind that we have to pay an extra 1k$ per year for "RR" bike, the vfr is not considered in that group.

Here's the bike I have owned and riden in my life and comments on it :

Owned Yamaha R6 03 (owned for 25000 miles) : fast nimble, uncomfortable, need more torque especialy for a passenger.

Rented Yamaha V-star 1100 (rented for 5000 miles) : fast for a custom, uncomfortable for long period, bad passenger seat

Rented Honda VTR-1000 (rented for a 100 miles) : fun torque, confortable position, don't know for passenger seat

Owned Suzuki GSX-R 1000 (owned for 10000 miles) : really fun torque, uncomfortable, plenty of torque for a passenger, ridiculous passenger seat.

Owned Honda CX650 E (owned for 15000 miles) : good torque under 60mph, comfortable, need more torque for a passenger, good comfort for the passenger.

I like spirited riding, I really like a lot of torque, I want a comfortable bike for long ride with a passenger. I really like powerfull acceleration, I dont't really care for a top speed over 120mph.

I also want hard luggage with lock, so if the bike come with it, it's a big plus.

My budget is 5k$ for a used bike.

So far the bike I like are the following :

    Yamaha FZ6
    Yamaha FZ1
    honda cbr1100xx
    honda VFR 800
    Suzuki SV 1000
    Honda VTR 1000
    Suzuki bandit 1200
    Kawasaki Z750
    Yamaha FJR 1300
    Honda ST1300

I know the VFR 800 would be great bike for me, the question is, would it be a great bike for me and my wife? Does the VFR 800 has enough torque to still have a fun ride with a passenger?

I'm 6'1 180 pound and my wife is 5'6 120 pound, I've been riding for the last 10 years.

The opinions toward any VFR here are going to be biased and rightfully so. From what I see from your post is a need for a more comfy seat for your passenger.

Torque is relative. Perhaps a more vigourous use of the gearbox would suffice.

The ST is a great bike too. Different than the VFR but still a great bike.

I really like the FJR 1300 which is in between the VFR and the ST1300 performance/sport wise but the price is also much higher.

Get the VFR, add a Sargent seat, crank the pre-load, and enjoy.

VFR is a good bike, i ride two up a few times a year. I have the Sargent seat. Wife is quite small and light.
I do like spirited ridng as well.

The more (aproaching 50% or more) two up touring style riding the less i would look at the vfr. I love the bike. But the Honda ST, Kawasaki Concourse, yamaha FJ are better for that type riding. I f i had to choose something other than the VFR for a lot of torunng and two up i would probably lean toward the Kawasaki.

By the way there is a white 06 VFR on ebay for less than $5K right now.
