Welcome, and congrats on the new ride. Be sure to give us a review of the DCT model after you've put of few miles on her.

Sweet! That new-fangled transmission sounds pretty high-tech. I imagine it will take a while to get accustomed to the different modes of operating - from totally smooth automatic, to sporty automatic, to manual w/push button gear changes and no clutch.

Once you've been on it a while, be sure to post your thoughts / impressions.

    Oh, and welcome!

just sittin on the thing lookin at the left bar freaks me out,
but im sure i would appreciate those 1200 units of torque.
congrats, im sure that you will be diggin the new ride.

if you find you cant stomach that ugly 1200 rear wheel,
toss it across the pond to me for use on my 5th gen.
i will send you back my 5th rear as a consolation prize!

First Distance Ride on my new 1200DCT - Gear changing is brilliant

Thanks for the welcome. Just finished my first decent ride. The manual and auto gear changing is brilliant. I found that it did not take long to get use to it. The only concern I have is that I really need to move my entire hand to switch between D and S in the Auto Trans - which means if you start in the Sport mode (as I like to) and then switch to the Drive mode when you're getting up there is speed then your throttle is likely to be affected when making the change. I would have put the DandS mode switch where the started is (similar to how they have moved the horn on the other side). Apart from this its so smooth and fast and you always have the Manual trans mode so there is nothing lost in the DCT model.
To try and explain it to people who have not ridden the bike - D is like gear changes on an automatic car (not exciting but economical) - S is something else it is just efficient gear changing and enables optimum increase in speed - MT allows the rider to be in total control with none of the advantages of the Auto.

I would appreciate any comment on one concern I have with the bike - at the lower speeds of say 40-60kmph there is a noticeable sort of a out of wheel balance feel. This is felt with or without panniers - anyone else had this issue?
