A hearing will be held on the eve of he Portuguese Grand Prix in Estoril between Race Direction, the Clerk of the Course and the Chief Marshal to review the aftermath of the crash in which Valentino Rossi took out Casey Stoner in last Sunday's Spanish Grand Prix, according to an FIM news release.

The April 28 meeting will take place so all parties can hear the explanation of the officials in charge after cornerworkers were seen to show favoritism over towards Rossi, while mostly ignoring Stoner. Rossi remounted to finish fifth, but Stoner was unable to get his Honda restarted to rejoin the race.

"I don't blame Rossi for the mistake - racing incidents happen," Stoner, who had only one corner worker helping him, said. "Losing his talent in the corner was a mistake. For me, the worst was the way the marshals helped him get going again, but didn't help me. It's completely unfair ... but riders up against Rossi have to learn to deal with this.

"We had a very good chance of winning. We had a great package. It's disappointing to lose so many points so early in the season without it being my fault."

He is the master on and off the track, because he wins the mind games. Mentally he is a very tough and smart boy. If it was dry I am sure he would have been flagged. In the wet ??? Tough call for the officials.
I seem to remember him doing something similar to Sete G one year when Sete became a serious threat.
Sete never one another race or placed on the podium I think.
Stoner should have laughed and said " I told you that front end was a bitch" And lay the games strait back at Rossi's feet.

In my opinion good pass too much brake, no rough housing. Even the best make mistakes, and Valentino has been and may still be the best. As for favoritism, maybe the corner workers should be penalized unless there is a paper trail of payments received from Rossi. I don't think Casey has time to reach the stature of Rossi in his career.

Who needs an article to figure this out? IMO, we should vote on this or have somebody write a note to their moms telling the moms that those boys need to learn to play nice with the other kids.

^^this. They're going to have a hearing to figure out who wouldn't share their toys and why? It sucks for Casey but it's done and such is life. Corner workers are just average schmucks and race enthusiasts hired for a weekend. In the chaos of the moment, shit happens.

Stoner knew Rossi was there and moved over to let him by, Stoner should have known that Rossi was gonna wash out ( being the former Duc rider ) so Stoner should have backed off a bit more and enjoyed the show.

so they are headed to court of a crash. Holy hell. That's almost as bad as a paraplegic showing up for the NFL draft, then claiming discrimination because he didn't get picked to make the millions per year these guys make. shit happens, deal with it, get over it, and get him at the next race.

If some of the armchair quarterbacks here had been working the corners they would have jumped on those bikes and won the race for thier favorite fast dudes.

Funny, your question is about the article, which is about the corner workers, but you state that Rossi shoulda got a penalty; apples and oranges me thinks.

Ask, and ye shall receive: http://www.motomatters.com/news/2011/04/05/race_direction_to_review_marshals_handli.html

It's "no fair" when people get taken out when there is a huge scrum in the first turn of a Moto2 race either. Or any number of other racing incidents. Boneheaded moves happen all the time.

Don't wanna be taken out, be in front, with a <1 second lead; one of the top (and simple) rules of racing.

    Everything else is just racing.

You should expect better from these officials as Moto GP is the Premium form of motorcyle racing and I'm guessing they'd be rightfully embarrassed watching the Keystone cop like replays of themselves flopping all over Rossi on the Spanish Sports channel etc. Hopefully the post race discussions within FIM come up with guidlines for similar situations in the future.

Not that much detail on whats to be talked about or done. Most of the comments taking away those of the leg humpers make good sense. Read that as "good".

Looks like the solution might be to equip the bikes with starters..

This reminds me of the situation when Michael Schumacher was racing (competitively) F1. Whenever there was a first corner pile-up and he was involved the race would be red flagged and restarted. If he had got through it, only the safety car would come out. Aside from talent, it takes years of building up your reputation and public image. Maybe that is where Rossi has it over the others (IMO he is no longer fast enough) and Stoner would do well to start working on his public image. I really don't think bitching about the marshals is a good place to start.

everyone's caught up in this thing like it's some kind of conspiracy. It's not like there was one guy in charge and he said, "STOP!!! OK, you six guys go over here and help my star boy there and you, YA YOU, THE SLOW FAT KID! - go push Casey."

not so much any more. There have been sever fist fights, words exchanged, and drivers forcefully drug out of their cars after crashes after they were taken out by someone else.

Just heard. I don't do NASCAR.
