New to the VFR

    Hello Everyone,

    I recently purchased a 2003 VFR 800 with 3900 miles. Yes thats right 3,900. As i look over some of the post most of the vfr 800's have alot more miles, do you feel that my bike needs breaking in. What advice can you all give me coming from the Gsxr 600. I'm in Maryland are there any Interceptors riders in the area?

    Welcome, Billie. At this point, there is no need to do anything specific except for a possible brake and clutch fluid change, provided they havn't been done in the last two years. Also make sure that the oil is no more than a year old. Other than that, your ride will continue to break-in for the next two or three thousand miles, but you're well beyond the "baby" it phase. Enjoy the ride!

    Coming from a gixxer I'd say you just need to get used to the Vtec kicking in and the extra weight of the VFR. Congrats on your new ride.

    What you need to do is a fresh oil change, clean out the fluid (Break & Clutch) Clean out the air filter, you never know what else you find in there :) Lube and adjust the chain if need it. And put some miles into her......I like to do this when I bought a used bike. By doing this I know she is clean and ready :)

    +1 on Long's airbox comment. On a bike that hasn't seen much action, you never know what sort of debris, especially from rodents, that has found its way in there.

    Thanks for the feedback. The ride is alo smoother than the gixer. I have seen these bikes around but thought it was a CBR.

    Don't forget about the wiring harnes recall for years 2002-2005. Provide the VIN to a dealershit and they should be able to tell you if it's been done.

    + 10,000 on Scubalongs call. You can bet your left nut the services have not been done. it's a legend of a motor but wont work for long with bad blood in its veins. Change all the fluids, A good way to get to know your bike. Then ride it like you stole it.

    Congrats! I am also a new 04 VFR owner and it had two open recalls on my bike that were taken care of by my local Powersports dealer. The former owner was not aware of the Recalls but he did mention the two issues with the bike and coincedentaly, the recall was for those exact issues, so basically, I got it repaired for FREE by Honda. I did bleed the Brakes which was a Task because of the linked system but it was doable. I love when the VTEC kicks in!! Have FUN and ride Safe/ Dont be a Squid. Rob in Tampa, FL
