Hey guys. I'm here in the Tampa Bay area in Florida. We have great weather here at least 85% of the year. The other 15% is hurricane season. (LOL) There's alot of good riding to do here but, its all flat. I have a friend who just moved to Tenn. he says hes about 30 miles from the south end of the Dragon's Tail (Deal's Gap) Sounds like thats the place to be.

The Dragon's great, but we have the Copperhead and Barber's in Bham area. If you can't handle a Hurricane...... I have a pink dress for you!

It is starting to sound like we might need 2 east coast conventions, a northeast and a southeast. Maybe Alabama and W. Va for example. That would allow a lot more people to attend as they wouldn't have to travel so far, and both seem to have great riding. Maybe you people in the middle could even attend both, who knows. A lot of people, including me, can only get so many days off, and with family trips, sickness etc. there aren't too many left to travel long distances, unfortunately.

I thought this was a dead issue. Haven't heard any dialog since Joe & I chatted on the phone! I sent my registration for HSTA, haven't booked my reg for the hotel. I guess I should do that, but I'm having some health issues right now. Don't want to make a TOTAL commitment just yet. If we can get a list of who IS going, or thinking of going would be great.
Even the HondaHoot sounds like a fun thing.

I am planning on going to NC for the Honda event. Sorry, but I have no plans on visiting Alabama at all - been there before and it is just not for me - not a bad place and there are some nice roads - Alabama is not a part of the East Coast anyway (it hides behind Ga. ;0) JK) - if there is a get together in Alabama Great!!!! Enjoy Guys!!! - I truly wish you fellow VFR guys well!!!! Now W Va is another great and wonderful place with some really nice people who have no problems with visiting people of different races (Heck I love America). I really love Alexandria and Falls Church and visit there often in the summer (I always meet some great people there - good shopping also - kinda dark on Rt 1). W Va. is also very close to DC and Baltimore. There is always a lot of good stuff going on there. W Va is another great location for a gathering (So many nice places maybe one gathering is not enough). I am in NYC and there are great roads here in Queens, Long Island and upstate has incredible roads and landscaping (also great area for sunning, funning, fishing and sailing). Long Island NY has a great shore line with some nice smooth roads and highways (motorcycle friendly areas are plentiful), beaches (family and single areas), beach clubs, Topless (and even bottomless) beaches, great roads, Party fishing boats, beach clubs, water taxis just to mention a few things about the shore here. There are also parking lots along the shore line filled with bikers who meet up and share information and ride together. There are always different events in NYC (free concerts, various promotions and giveaways are really great). Too bad that most people only know about NYC from the movies - it is a shame because Manhattan is where a lot of filming is done, and it does not represent NYC which is composed of 5 very different boroughs - too bad a majority of NYC tourists are herded to Manhattan and ripped off. Really sad because the best of NYC is not in Manhattan. Heck, everything and people from everywhere in America and the rest of the world are here in NYC - guess that is why some of everything is here. I still miss Tejas a lot, but for now NYC will do for me. BTW - NJ also has some great and wonderful roads and a wonderful shore line with some really nice people. Anyway, keep me posted if you are gonna do anything in NC, W VA, Maryland or NYC. - If anyone in the NYC/NJ area want to get together, check out any rallies or ride out to the shore, please let me know. I am always ready to ride and the weather has been nice enough here for me to keep on riding so far. Thanx!!!!!

This is the first I've heard of HSTA or even STAR 2007.

I attended the Honda Hoot last year, and I had a great time.
    the events, the attendees, everything.

But, it is built around the touring crowd.

Truth be told, I had the best time going down and back via the Blue Ridge.
Fortunately, I got to do the Dragon both in the sun and the rain. on the same day, no less.

I'd like to try something different, and do more riding.
THis HSTA sounds appealing.. I'd like more information and opinions.

    thanks.

While the ferry idea is cool, SOUTHERN NJ?!?! Are you serious??? Unless your intention is to make others appreciate where they live that much more, any place in NJ would be a waste of time. Unless you live in DC or KA, you haven't seen traffic until you see normal day to day driving in NJ. Trust me on this, it would suck hard core.

As far as a location are we talking a place with lodging or are we simply talking where the group will me at a pre-determined time?

If it is a place with lodging, I recommend Cherokee, NC. Reason for this, plenty of hotel rooms both cheap & not cheap along with great food and great riding. Within 45 minutes you have the Dragon, the HellBender, the BLue Ridge PW, the Cherohala Skyway, the Great Smokey Mountain PW, the Foothills PW, RT 19 and a number of other kick-ass local roads.

If it is simply a location to have a large group of people meet up, I propose Mount Mitchell. It has a restaurant with decent food, some unbelievable hiking, a gift shop and great views. Adding icing to the cake is the fact the ONLY way to get there is to ride on the BRPW.

As long as I get at least 30 days notice, I can almost guarantee I'll be there.

    KC-10 FE out...

Yo jackinthebox4 check for HSTA info at the following link http://www.ridehsta.com/star/2007/

I am in the process of trying to buy a used conversion van (I want to carry my bike and do some camping and have some fun at a couple of rallies this year). I want to go to the JuneBugBoogie Rally in Tn. on June 21, 2007 thru June 24, 2007. I am planning on scheduling my visit to Deal's Gap after the JuneBugBoogie Rally. Anyone interested in going to the JuneBugBoogie Rally let me know. Check their WebSite: http://junebugboogie.com - Looks like a lot of fun and great place for no bars hold fun!!! Also if there are any Pa VFR riders there is another wild and fun rally where you do not have to worry about the police bothering you in New Castle, Pa - http://thunderinthecascades.com/index.htm - Let me know if anyone is interested in meeting up at any of the rallies I have mentioned or any in the NYC area.

Hey Brit - thanx for the info. Sorry - I just do not spend my time watching people race. I would rather be somewhere I can have fun and do some riding. I am going to be participating in a couple of Trackdays and I also am a Lee Parks riding coach. I like rallies where you can party and have fun not watch races, wait in lines and get stuck in crowds and ripped off for food and hotels with inflated hotel rates and get hassled by the police. I like going to rallies, swapmeets and some motorcycle shows were you can get discounted apparel and parts for bikes. Worth the time and money for me. As far as races go I can see that on TV or buy the DVD and I do not do either. Appreciate the thought though.

Hey sounds great but just not for me - I see those type of events as ripoffs and just not worth the time or money. Why sit around all day and be stuck sitting around in the heat, waiting in line and crowds just to go to the bathroom and waiting to party or getting ripped off by the vendors at the races, inflated food prices for food that sucks most of the time (sorry I am real picky about a lot of things and I like what I like - Sorry no insult to you at all) - not good prices there for me. Whatever makes your boat float!!!! I could have more fun getting a group together and riding out to the shore and partying on the beach and then riding some more and get the group on a party fishing boat before riding back home. I can get a group for a ride out of State and then go to a rally and camp, party, make some BBQ and have a blast and ride some more and check out the vendors who actualy discount the prices on items - Naaa you go and enjoy yourself and have fun!!!!! Not for me.

Ashville is an awsome area, but good luck with the no drugs and alcohol. Ashville is a pothead sanctuary......not that there'e anything wrong with that! Kinda far for me but it would be worth it I think.

ummm interesting information on Ashville - I will have to see about paying that place a visit. Sounds like it could be a fun place to have a good time with getting hassled. I share in freewhellburner's statement - good luck wih the no drugs and alcohol and have fun with the police that want to hassle you for nuthin while violent criminals go crazy - That is why I tend to go for events that are held on private property. Cops are the biggest and most violent corrupt gang in the Country. I believe in order but nothing will ever get accomplised with the Keystone idiots that are in uniforms. I know there are some good people in uniform and I openly apologize to them, but they are not the majority.

Hey emon, Did you go to the NY mc convention? We went Sunday. All day. Each year I go with a group who rents a bus into town. Maybe next time we can meet up. I'm thinking of going to Ashville with the HSTA group. My problem is getting the days off from work. Requests have to be in by Feb. 12. It would be nice if some of the VFRworld members were going. We can wear our shirts so we can recognize each other.

    Talk to you soon...
BTW...did you ever get a tank bag??

emon, everything you said about Mid-Ohio couldn't be further from the truth. You obviously have no idea what it is about. None of the things you mentioned happen at that event. Watching motorcycle racing is the last thing you do there. You really need to get out of NYC a bit and clear your mind of the bullshit that is spread throughout NY. The places you mentioned with the exception of upstate aren't worth the air they take up much les going there. I am not meaning to insult you with this post but I feel you are way off in your perseption of what NYC has to offer. It is a dump! And the state of NY would be better off without it.

Hey bike51 - I am a Lee Parks Total Control Rider Instructor and that is the only reason I was anywhere near the Javits Center Motorcycle Show. The school had a booth there. Javits Center is a big-time ripoff and the Motorcycle show there is a bigger fraud. Very bad vendors and items for sale i.e. why bring gloves for men in sizes small and medium - no x-Large or xxx-Large duh; old styles and oddball sizes; no name leather and no quality crap (where are leather overpants for me - again with the small and medium sizes); not a really decent pair of glasses anywhere and vendors that try and tell you that the price at the show is the cheapeast - not true - I like Galfer brake lines but he was full of BS with his price and did not have the lines for a 2k VFR but was ready to take an order; why come to a show to take orders (BTW I found the Galfer brake lines online cheaper than they were being sold for at the show) - why bring products that you cannot sell at a store and bring small odball sizes for men - people at the booths were not very knowledgeable about the product they are trying to sell - lousy food - ripoff beer prices - missing bikes Honda had no ST1300 at the show as an example - totally played out wanna be stunt show - stunt show is so old and tired been the same for 3 - 4 years - no demo rides - no free area for riders to store helmets and gear if they rode to the show - I can keep on going - lousy show - bigtime ripoff - total waste of time. Kev-Marv Production does much better shows and has better vendors and pricing (they could be better too but anybody can beat the lousy Javits Center Motorcycle show). Total Waste of Time and Money - Total Ripoff - Not for me - glad it did not cost me any money
